I am the director of that state event Jeremy is talking about. While someone in a personal conversation may have alluded to the idea, "The mentality is to run everything through the church building instead of empowering the church to go in the harvest fields," that was certainly not the focus of the conference. As a matter of fact, the theme "Press On" was all about doing unprecedented youth ministry. It promoted the idea that we have to move from being a bonfire building people to being a torch bearing people, (taking the light)moving ministry to the places where people live, work, and play. I think the "edge" in ministry is not so much related to new ways of doing things, but rather how closely those "ways" reflect the ministry of Christ himself. Has there ever been anyone edgier?

WOW!!

I was at a state training event a couple of weeks ago and found myself in a discussion on how student ministry needs to change. The mentality is to run everything through the church building instead of empowering the church to go in the harvest fields. This is a great way to begin the journey of revamping student ministry to be outward focused. We have to train the students to go.... go....go.... and keep going. Tim - way to think on the edge, you are using your gifts in amazing ways!

Greg,

We are using it! I first heard about it through twitter (which is an invaluable resource for youth workers and ministry leaders...ehem!) Anyways, my website takes you to a post of how we are going to use this in our youth ministry! Truly is a God-thing i have been praying and thinking about the best way to take you up on the challenge of training my teens in the Deep and Wide model since D2S in Denver and when i saw this post by Tim (on twitter...ehem) i knew this was a practical way to train the students and move them farther along the Deep & Wide Paradigm!

Thanks Tim for facilitating this! Thanks Greg and D2S for all of the awesome training materials we have or are putting all of them to use repeatedly church wide! They ROCK!
