I do not think there is a need to prove one view point "right" or "wrong". Nor, is there a need for Christians to prove others wrong. We do not have an exclusive claim on God. God saves in and through the revealing power of God in Jesus Christ. There is no need for the revelation of God to be exclusive. Given the diversity of cultures, a revelation given in one culture is not necessarily salvivic for those living in another culture. For example, the revelation of Jesus is not salvivic in the Jewish tradition because they do not accept the divinity of Jesus. That does not mean Jews are not saved. God can work in many ways and to deny that is to deny the power of God. The reality is the religions of the world are not reducible one another. They are not all the same but we can commit to respect the other in difference, and to work with the other in areas of common agreement.

If the only book about Christianity that you read is the Bible, I would suggest at least taking into consideration that Christianity belongs to the same Abhrahamic faith traditions as Judaism and Islam. There are points of connection between all three faith traditions. The Scripture from 1 Corinth. 1:18-25 speaks to the wisdom of God, a wisdom that surpasses all understanding as to how God works. God works even through our foolish exclusivisitc claims. Praise God! I applaud your discerment of the Holy Spirit. May you continue to be guided by God's working through your life.

Kelley,

I still don't see where Greg is denouncing other religions, he is simply stating what they believe and if he uses some humor there is nothing wrong with that. Last time I checked, the is still the United Sates of American and we have something called freedom of speech.

I once believed like you, that people of all religions could get to heaven, but after accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior my view has changed. I stuggled with that issue for many months, with research and personal experience I came to the truth that Jesus is the only way to heaven.

I take the Bible literally and won't comprimise God's Word. If you believe that you are going to heaven in the Christian faith, and a Buddhist is going to heaven in the Buddhist faith, and a Muslim is going to heaven in the Muslim faith, etc., then you are wrong.

At least we do agree that we should use compassion and love to reach people and bring glory to Him, other than that we will have to agree to disagree.

Thank you for suggesting that I read Divinity and Diversity, but I choose to read the Bible and listen to the Holy Spirit.

I will leave you with this scripture that I was reminded by the Holy Spirit:

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate." Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him. God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block for Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength." 1 Corinthians 1:18-25

I wish you Godspeed!

I believe Jesus is The Way, The Truth and the Life for Christians. I love Jesus and proclaim Jesus as my Savior. My faith is as real as yours. It is possible to be Christian and accept religious pluralism. That was my point. I would suggest you read Divinity and Diversity: A Christian Affirmation of Religious Pluralism by Majorie Hewitt Suchocki. Suchocki is a retired professor of the Claremont School of Theology and directs the Process and Faith Program of the Center for Process Studies (http://www.processandfaith.org).

It is absolutley not necessary as a Christian to denounce other faith traditions. Differences do not make one right over the other. I do not look for errors in the Bible. I do close Biblical exesgesis to learn about who the intended orginal audience may have been and what the Scripture would have meant to that audience in order to gain insight as to how the Scripture applies to my life. A Christian does not have to take the Bible literally. Jesus opened the way to varied interpretations of the Scripture--that's what makes him a trouble maker! I am commited to Interfaith and Ecumenical dialogue with other faith traditions. I have no trouble sharing my faith with others and often do with people of other faith traditions but I do it with respect towards the other. God is not something to be "proved" but is the One who gives our lives meaning and purpose and gives us the ability to love and have compassion.

Kelley,

With all due respect, I don't think Greg was "trashing" other faith traditions. It seems he was questioning the difference between different religious "holy" books and stated why he believes in the God of the Bible.

Do you believe in the God of the Bible and if so, can you tell me why? Greg stated, "We (Christians) are to share the reasons to believe with every person we know" but you totally ignored that and judged him by saying he was "trashing" other religions. Telling people what other religions believe is not "trashing" them, but telling the truth.

You state, "We should be proclaiming the whole scripture, the relationship between God and humanity" and Greg does a excellent job doing that.

In Matthew 10:34 Jesus said, "Do not think that I came here to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword."

From what I understand the sword is the Word and it is through the Word of the Bible that I found the truth. Accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior has transformed my life. For me, Christianity is not a religion, but having a personal relationship with Jesus. I found that Jesus did not come to bring peace on earth, but willingly sacrificed His life to reconcile the fellowship between man and God that was broken in the Garden of Eden, and it is with that reconciliation with God that I found peace in my life.

Read Jesus' words carefully:

"Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive our witness. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather then light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God." ~ John 3:11-21

I can only share my testimony on why I believe in the God of the Bible and people have the choice to believe me or not. I have many reasons to believe, but Greg mentioned, "Seeing God's handiwork in the sky" and stated, "Your mission is to share these reasons to believe with every person that you know." And with that I know God wants me to share what I saw last September. The reason being, so many Christians think that the cross doesn't matter. Even a well know tv evangelist stated, "The cross doesn't matter and in the future you won't see crosses in Churches."

It was late September when I was driving home and while waiting in traffic at a four way stop, I turned and looked to the east. Something caught my eye and hanging there in the blue eastern sky was a huge white cross. The cross was not made by planes and there were no other clouds other then the cross. I never saw such a perfect cross formed out of clouds - It had perfectly squared corners, but the very bottom of the cross was not squared but continued as a squggly line as though the artist did it on purpose. I knew that the cross was drawn by the hand of God. I tried to rush home to get a camera, but the cross slowly disappeared by the time I got home. Had I been by myself, I would have thought I was seeing things, but my daughter was with me and also witnessed it.

Seeing that cross in the sky proved to me that the cross does matter to God.

Kelley, you asked Greg, "Please don't trash other faith traditions to raise up Christianity." Understand, Greg speaks the truth to raise up the Son of Man - Jesus Christ, the Lord of Lords, the King of Kings, the great "I AM."

I suggest that you read the Bible without trying to prove it is wrong by looking for "errors" because there are none. Maybe you will find the truth and discover how big the God of the Bible truly is.

By the way, If you haven't noticed Jesus was a troublemaker. Why? Because He spoke the truth. Remember He said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Best regards,

Laura

You do realize that the Jewish, Muslim and Christian faith traditions all orginate with the Abrahamic covenant, right? All three of these traditions flow from the God who called Abraham. I don't think we need to prove others "wrong" to prove we are "right." We need to be responsable for the condition of our faith lives and if that includes a righteous or judgemental attitude then God will not be glorified. The Bible contains many "errors" due to the way it was copied and recopied by scribes over generations. Scribes would make their own commentaries in the margins and the next scribe would incorporate that note into the text. I don't think we need to hide that fact to preach the Thruth of the Gospel. I don't think we need to hide the fact there are two creation stories in Genesis or not all of the geneologies match up or the lists of the tweleve disciples do not match. We should be proclaiming the whole of Scripture, the relationship between God and humanity, how God reveals Godself (God is NOT "he") to all of creation. We put God in a box and God can't wait till we open that lid just to catch a glimpse at how big God and God's love is. I'm sure you mean well but please don't trash other faith traditions to raise up Christianity. They will know we are Christians by our love.

I don’t think we need to hide that fact to preach the Thruth of the Gospel. I don’t think we need to hide the fact there are two creation stories in Genesis or not all of the geneologies match up or the lists of the tweleve disciples do not match. We should be proclaiming the whole of Scripture, the relationship between God and humanity, how God reveals Godself (God is NOT “he”) to all of creation. We put God in a box and God can’t wait till we open that lid just to catch a glimpse at how big God and God’s love is. I’m sure you mean well but please don’t trash other faith traditions to raise up Christianity. They will know we are Christians by our love.
