    Thoughts on the Survive Tour

Posted on Wednesday 16 April 2008 by Greg @ 8:15 am
    Filed under: Rants

Now that the dust of the Survive Tour have settled I thought that I would share with you a couple of my musings about this particular conference tour.

Let me start by thanking everyone involved in making this tour a reality. From our own amazing and hard working Dare 2 Share staff to all of the organizations we work side-by-side with to execute these training events (Outside the Box Ministries, Legacy, Torn Curtain Arts Ministries and Universal Stylz.) Great job everyone!

This year it wasn’t just our volunteers but our volunteer staff that really saved the day. Thank you so much for the sacrifice and investment you made to minister to these teenagers for a weekend.

Lincoln Brewster rocks. I love that dude. He is a godly, humble man. And he has a special way of unveiling the presence of God as he leads worship. And what can I say about The Washington Projects? They were awesome both on stage and off.

I thank God for Derwin and Zane. Both have become good friends and, I believe, have the capacity for making a nation-shaking difference. My prayer is that God will use the platform of Dare 2 Share to give them a larger platform nationally and provide them some tools they can use to help their audiences follow through with a Deep and Wide life.

Paul Leavitt with Torn Curtain, once again, did an amazing job writing and directing the skits and the drama. As always he and I “tangoed” but in a good way. We work from different perspectives and I love the end product that we are able to come up with together.

The drama this year was a tough one for me. We usually end with more closure and a happier ending (happier than two martyrdom executions anyway). What helped me after the first few conferences was seeing my closing talk after the drama as the third act to the play. Because of the dramas abrupt ending it really set up my closing challenge to be willing not just to die for Christ, but to live for Christ. It also had a lot of youth groups talking late into the night. The drama grew on me over the tour. I think we are going to go back to a drama with a bit more closure (but with every bit as much tension) for next tour.

I loved the training portions of this tour. I really felt like Derwin, Zane and I were able to communicate some significant content that connected. It felt likethe audience was tracking and I heard some great feedback afterward. I look at these conferences as fire and wood. The fire is the motivation and the wood is the content that the motivation burns on.

Giving the Double Dare (to share the gospel with all your friends) got me pumped up this year. Tens of thousands responded.

To be honest I’m kind of getting sick and tired of the “let’s save the children” approach we have taken in trying to get teenagers to keep their faith after they graduate. Sure I still use the great graduation evacuation statistic (70% graduating seniors walk away from the church after high school). But the Double Dare this year gave us a chance to be offensive and not purely defensive. As one soldier put it, “Nobody ever won a war by being defensive.”

Our goal is not to just keep kids from leaving the church. It is to raise up an army of Christian teenagers who are reaching every teenager in their world with the message and mission of Jesus. Imagine with me every teenager in America hearing the gospel through another teenager that they know. The Double Dare has started making that dream into a reality.

Sure the Survive Conference had some kinks (usually something i did) but all n all it was an amazing tour. I can’t wait for The Invincible Tour to start!

    Signed, Greg Stier

As a new youth leader I was truly blessed by this conference. I have only been working directly with youth for a couple of years & I myself have had very little discipleship in how to be a youth leader so this conference has really confirmed many convictions I have felt myself and I am so excited to have had the opportunity to attend. We of course bought curriculum to use w/ our Youth and can not wait to start using it. All Glory & Praise to God for you & the Dare 2 Share ministry!! God Bless!

Thank you like a million times for all the hard work you have put into this! I was at the conference in Atlanta and it was AMAZING!! It was my first time at a d2s conference. I cannot wait until next year, I wish it was sooner. I can’t imagine how much work has gone into this. Thank you to all the people who worked so hard to make this a possibility. Also, I read the Dare2Share book and it was soooooo good! My friend is borrowing it and reading it too. I’m working on reading You’re Next right now. I’ve read the first chapter and studied it and it was so cool. The concept that God Is. It is amazing to think about. Wow, that was kinda long. Sorry! Keep up all the hard work!

Oh yeah! I forgot to say that while I was at Dare2Share I bumped in to one of my friends! I didn’t even know he was going! And I hadn’t seen him in forever! (When I saw him he actually had a big nail stuck through the sole of his shoe…..) but he was excited to see me anyways! That made me one happy girl! Then I bumped into him again!!!! He danced and we had fun! It was awesome! I can’t even say how excited I was to see Jim (Or as I call him, Lil Jimmy!)

Wow I was totally rambling! Sorry!

      • Hey Greg, i had a great time at D2S this year and last year! i’m graduating but i’ll make sure my brother comes out for the next 3 years! last year was an eye opener- i became way cool about not caring if my school friends knew i loved JESUS! and this year was just as good but more of a learning and comprehension experience! all the speakers, Derwin, Zane, You, everybody had a great understand of the Bible and taught it effectively!!! thanks for doin what your doin!
this message is for you but more for Derwin so if you could pass this message on to Derwin Grey for me, i’d appreciate it–> i told my youth pastor, of Grace Fellowship Church of Oak Forest IL, about my friend’s band called Sexually Frustrated [they are a Christian/Hardcore band that sings about how lust and sexual imorality is wrong and God never intended the way the world sees sex to be. their lyrics a lot like Doug Van Pelts, writer and editor of The Hard Music magazine, old band, Lust Control. my youth pastor told me Derwin was into the Song of Solemon tour, i’m not sure what that is BUT i thought he would be thrilled to hear about a band that hits up Chicago shows and challenges guys to set their sits on God and not Girls Gone Wild. feel free to email me back about this message and what not. thanks again! Nick

      • I live in the small town of DeKalb Illinois, but when I was little I lived in River Grove Illinois. My best friends still live there, and we were all going to the same church and I loved (and still Love) them alot. Last year we went to the Dare to Share Gameday Conference and I had a blast. I was refreshed, and I really felt the call to share the gospel to my friends. I still try to do this. But this year all of my friends decided not to go becuase they had sports or some other lame excuse. I couldnt go becuase those friends who were supposed to pick me up didnt. I just wanted to say that even though I didnt come this year that I really support what you are doing and it really helps me. I am definatley not letting anything stop me from coming next year and I pray for you that you can help my generation to come out of darkness! God bless! Jenny

I took the Double Dare Challenge and i kept that promise. That monday back at school I told my very best friend about it. She isn’t a practicing catholic and she kinda mocked the christain beliefs. Well this passed monday she came up to me and asked if I could help get to know Christ and I was so excited. Now I’m showing her all the wonderful things God did for us as sinners. Carolyn

P.S. I decied at Dare2Share that I was going to baptized

Thank you so much for everything that you did and still do for the youth of America! I was at the Atlanta conference and it was AMAZING. I could feel God moving over us. I am proud to say that God is really using our youth group as well. Every since the conference, we have had at least 24 people accecpt Christ! Also, many of our youth has taken the Double Dare! We are really pumped about what God is doing in our lives and continue to watch our youth group grow each week! This was my first time ever going to a Dare 2 Share conference and my experiences that I took from that weekend will last a life time. Zane and Derwin’s testimonies were truly amazing. The things that they went through and their lives now…I can see God working in their lives and know that they can reach many people in their lives. I graduate this year but I hopefully will be back next year as a leader! Thanks again so much for your hard work and dedication to God.
