Nashvilled

Posted on Monday 2 October 2006 by Greg @ 10:23 am
Filed under: Rants

I’ve been “nashvilled” (my own word invention thank you very much.) After months of prayer and prep we have finally launched our first conference of the new school year in Nashville, TN.

As we gathered together in music city I was nervous, excited and did I mention nervous? It all looks good on paper but there is nothing like a live audience to tell you whether or not the training content was solid, the skits were funny, the drama was heart wrenching and the music was awesome…or not. Thank the Lord it was. These teens were taken on our first Game Day training experience of the year. We navigated through 2 Timothy 4:1-8 and learned to “GO preach the Word, FIGHT for the truth and WIN the reward. Students learned about Judgment Day (yes, that’s right. We dusted off that old forgotten doctrine and, guess what? The students loved it!) They learned about the inerrancy of Scripture, fighting for the truth when it comes to the movie scene in Hollywood and the music scene in Nashville…and much, much more. Pray for these teens as most of them took The 48 Hour Challenge. By the way, if you were one of them….how did it go?

Signed, Greg Stier

    • Hello, my name is Crystal and i was at your dare2share gameday conference in Nashville this past weekend. I came with my youth group from Auburn, KY called New Life Baptist Church. i thought it was the most amazing experience a teenager could have! it really changed my life and my personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and i feel like a brand new person! I took the 48 hour challenge and i called up one of my friends that moved away this year and i knew she was saved but i asked her if she was still walking hand-in-hand with christ and she said she was. after that i went kind of blank so my friend Troy who was in the church van with me who is the best speaker i know talked to her and prayed with her on the phone. After he was done he handed me the phone and she told me that she was crying and that that 1 phone call changed her life! so i was wanting to say thank you for all of your time and thanks for having this conference in Nashville cuz there wasnt a dry eye that Friday night.

    • Greg, i go to church with Crystal, the one that posted the comment from Auburn, we met because my friend tommy told you about FiSH, our campus ministry, and i was the one he went and got with the red FiSH shirt on. Friday night was fantastic, i loved it, you shouldve seen our youth group that night, tears were everywhere, even from me, the kind of guy that doesnt normally cry. Your sermon that night deeply impacted me and brought me back to reality that one day, we will die, and we have to be ready to stand in front of christ as everything we did in life unfolds, every piece of foul language we have used (guilty) and every sin that we have commited. We shouldnt have to be nervous when that day comes, we should proud that we are up there on that day standing before him, but we shouldnt have to walk either, we should Run with Christ. Friday night was the first time i have felt that extreme fire for God. In the hotel room, Troy Graham and Nick Offutt were in there listening to me preach his word.  Greg, you have influenced me so much and you helped me know what to do when it comes to witnessing. I’m reading Dare2Share, your book, and it is helping me so much. THANK YOU!!             God Bless            Cameron

    • Greg, I really enjoyed this year’s theme and the Friday night drama did just what you wanted to see happen in a youth group, to re-affirm and re-evaluate your Christian walk.  I talked with the students that felt as if they were the "posers" of the group.  They know they need to be more committed.  I am the bald-headed youth leader who spoke about the Gospel Journey during the youth leader breakout session.  I hope you realize the humor in the story of one of my youth feeling like an athiest.  Personally, I believe she is in a rut. a deep rut.  But thank you for prating for her, again her name is Keisha.  You are a special person with a special ministry team and I am blessed to be a part of it.  Kurt

    • Greg,  I came with my church First Southern Baptist, from Evansville, Indiana to the D2S conference in Nashville. I had so much fun, and the whole experience was absolutely amazing.  I have a story to tell. When we went around Downtown Nashville to collect canned food, my friend Jordan and I got to spread the GOSPEL to everyone we talked to except for the first house.  About the fourth house we went to we talked to this guy and asked him if he was saved, he said yes but he has not been to church in a long time. Before we left we asked him if he had any prayer requests he wanted us to pray for and he said he wanted us to remember his mother Rosalee who is 84 years old. We prayed with him and thanked him and left. When we got about the tenth house down we talked to this elderly lady and we talked to her and shared the gospel with her. We asked her for prayer requests and she said just for the world and her name was Rosalee. We didn’t know it at first but the guy we prayed with and the lady we talked too were actually mother and son. We were so excited that we got to present the GOSPEL to both mother and son. For a praise, there was a lady we talked who asked us to remember her friend who was in a coma on Friday and on Saturday he came too and was able to talk.  Thanks again and I can’t wait until next year.                        God Bless,                          ~Kristi Devine~

    • I went to Nashville with our Youth group as a chaperone.  My 15 yr old son went as well as did 37 others.  We had a BLAST.  It was great to see something that the kids could relate to and still drink up the gospel.  Sharing the gospel in the streets of Nashville is something that I will never forget.  2 of our young adults forgot and took some cash from what they said was a "strange" man that seemed to be on drugs or something.  So I took the cash back to his house and spoke with him and explained why we could not take his money.  He kinda scoffed at me and our SILLY rules.  Then his neighbor spoke to us both and told "George" to tell me why he came across as DIFFERENT to the kids.  I found out that he is an atheist.  Well this was not my first run in with an atheist, so I began to witness to him and stood there talking for at least 20-30 minutes.  I asked WHY he believed that way and did something happen to turn him away from GOD and he said NO.  He just believes that there is no GOD.  I asked him why and he really had no good answer so I asked him "what if you’re wrong?"  He said than I am going to Hell.  Then he asked me what if "I" was wrong.  And I explained to him that if I was (But that I wasn’t) that I will have spent the majority of my life serving others and and will have left a legacy of caring to my kids.  I inquired more and he told me that he was a philosophy of religion major in college.  Well I felt that I had and opening and a possible reason for his lack of belief.  I felt that I could trace his lack of faith back to some secular professor ranting and raving about the crazy Christians and their beliefs, but he shocked me by telling me he attended Oral Roberts University.  So had to look elsewhere for a reason which I never pinpointed.  He went inside to get some food instead of the cash and his dog got out and came towards me and bit me on the hand and back of the leg.  He and his neighbor assured me the dog was up to date on his shots and I told him that was bleeding for Jesus and that I hoped that he would someday come to know Christ.  I showed him the blood on the back of my hand and reminded him the Jesus bled for him in a MUCH bigger way.  He laughed at my "bleeding for Jesus"  remark and agreed to take a gospel tract from me and hang it on his refrigerator.  George did not accept Jesus that day, but hopefully a seed was planted and maybe his great neighbor Darrel can lead him to Christ someday.  If we come back to Nashville next year,  I hope to go by his house again and at least say HI to him.  He was a pretty nice guy that needs a savior.

    • Hey Greg! i know you probably hear this all the time, but i attended the GameDay conference in Nashville Tennessee with Hermitage Hills Baptist Church. it was the best conference i have ever been to in my life, i’ve already applied the things we talked about to my life, and i also sent out an email to everyone in my address book.. and i have gotten some amazing responses, and it really opened the door for talking to them about God. i dont usually attend  conferences, but i felt a calling to attend this one. we couldn’t afford to Go, and my youth leader Jason, just told us to go anyway, because the bands were already paid for, and if we felt we should go, then we would. im so glad for that, because it was the greatest thing i have done in a very very very very long time. i was nervous when we were doing the "door to door" thing, but then after Jason talked to a few people, and he had me talk to some people, it wasn’t so bad, and it was so empowering! While i didn’t graduate from P.U.,my brother stood up and gave his "graduation experience" it was amazing! i can see God working, and it is incredible to be able to witness!! Thank you so much for doing this conference! it has re-kindled something in me that needed to be re-kindled very badly. Thank you for helping that to happen *~*Annette Coste*~*

    •  Hi, Greg!  I left a message about your book, "Ministry Mutiny" on that blog site - great book!  I am in my first pastorate at New Beginnings Baptist in Eddyville, Kentucky and this was the first youth trip that I have made with them (first trip for the church, as well).  I saw you at a PK event in Louisville (I think it was) a few years back and have followed your ministry since then.  I am thankful for the opportunity to finally attend and that it was in Nashville, which is MUCH closer to home than in the past.  I went back to our church on Sunday and presented them with a 48-hour challenge, which most took me up on.  I am excited to hear the results.  I shared the experience of Dare2Share in my sermon on Sunday morning and had some of our youth (and my wife) give their testimonies.  I also set a picture presentation to music.  I’m not sure that there was a dry eye in the house. I wanted to share with you about the first house we visited in Nashville.  It was the home of a young man who was raised a Presbyterian and then went to college, where his Philosophy classes crushed his faith.  I took the opportunity to share the GOSPEL with him and wound up using the "Way of the Master" method of revealing his need for a savior by leading him through a discussion on the 10 Commandments.  He had mentioned that he believed in doing good and in the 10 Commandments, which keyed me in on this tack.  I am an educated person, myself, but faith is a spiritual matter, so I entertained some intellectual discussion and then moved to the spiritual by using the 10 Commandments.  He didn’t accept Jesus, but he was willing to read the Gospel of John (he was an artist, to boot, and really liked the cover art) that I had with me, so I left it with him and encouraged him.  He appreciated the talk and I believe it will yield fruit, by the power of God’s Word (which shall not return void). That was an awesome opportunity for me and I know that it impacted the two young men that were with me.  One of them, after knocking on a door which no one answered, said, "I’ve got to tell someone the G.O.S.P.E.L.!"  They were psyched-up!  I was able to use our experieces as illustrations this Sunday, as well!  We had several encouraging experiences in our youth group and I am thankful for you and your ministry.  I hope that you are able to return to Nashville next year; we’re coming back if you do. Your Brother in Christ, ><>Heath<><

    • Let me start off by saying "WOW!" What an impact this conference has made.  I started preparing the youth that I was taking to the conference as much as 3 months ago, (that this wouldn’t be their normal conference), but even I can say that I wasn’t prepared for what lay ahead.  I prepared for the worse (because that’s what I do), and I came away with the best.  I can’t stop thinking of how proud I am to say that I actually am leading this group of youth.  They went in to this as a group who knew Jesus and dabbled with spreading the GOSPEL, and left realizing that their will be a judgement day and that we will be judged.  This event opened my eyes to the fact that in every way possible we should be trying to spread the GOSPEL.  If our lessons/message doesn’t spread the GOSPEL then of what use was it?  I prayed for this conference to be an event that would change their lives, and came out of with my life changed.

    • Let me start off by saying "AWESOME"!!!! I went to that conference with my youth group at Wallhighway Baptist Church in Madison, AL. I had soooo much fun!!! It really made me realize a lot of things that I haven’t really put much thought into. I mean, I have thought about Judgement Day, but I didn’t see how serious it was until this conference. It opened the eyes of my heart, that’s for sure. I tried the 48 hour challenge, but I didn’t really get anywhere until yesterday. I have been telling all of my friends about it and nobody really listened until I got to one friend, Claire. I was talking to her on the bus and I had asked her if she was saved. She told me that she didn’t really know if she was or not because they don’t really talk about it at her church. She also told me that she wanted to be saved really bad and that she trusts in God and believes in her heart that Jesus died on the cross for her sins. So, I started to go through the Gospel with her and then she told me that she wanted to be saved before I could finish. I was so happy!!!! It really made me feel good to know that she wanted to accept Christ in her heart. So I told her how the prayer went, and that she didn’t have to neccesarily say it right then but when she did she had to really mean it, and she said she does mean it. So I gave her my churches myspace site that my youth pastor has set up to be a witnessing tool and she said that she would go look at it!! The sinners prayer is on there and she’s really dedicating her life to God right now. I’m just asking you to pray for her. And thanks again!!!! That conference was sooooo awesome. The music, drama, EVERYTHING was great! You can e-mail me anytime.

    • My name is Jessica and I went to the Dare 2 Share conference in Nashville. I came with some people from my church youth group. We are from West Tennessee and my church’s name is TVCC. My mom is the children’s ministry leader so everyone expects my three brothers and me to be Christians who always set the best example. So all my brothers and I accepted Jesus and were baptized when we about 8 or 9 years old. Well, my older brother, Jeremy, and I went on this trip and at that time I had been wondering about a few things. I wasn’t sure if my name was really in the book of life and I wasn’t sure if Jeremy’s was either. After Friday night I started freaking out even more. I also felt kinda left out because all the other youth seemed pretty comfortable about knowing if they were for sure going to Heaven. Saturday, before the concert, I asked Kim, my youth leader who is like a second mom to me, how old she was when she was saved. She said that since her dad was a preacher she felt that she had to be saved and baptized to set a good example. So she was saved when she was 11, but wasn’t completely sure about it until she was 19. That made me feel a little better knowing that the same thing happened to her. On the way home, I rode with my friend and our other youth leader who is Kim’s husband. He also works for the church as the praise and worship leader on Sundays. I asked him the same question I asked Kim. I didn’t think it was true, but the same thing happened to him except his dad wasn’t a preacher. He then asked me if I was sure about where I was going when I died. I told him I wasn’t sure and he talked to me about it. From that night on I was completely sure I was going to Heaven. But the thing that bothered me a lot was that I wasn’t sure about Jeremy. I would appreciate it if you would help pray me pray for him and my little brother who didn’t get the chance to go.

    • hey greg goin to dare2share helped me so much.it helped me to have a stronger faith and a better relationship with God. me and the rest of the youth group of new life baptist church had an awsome time it was something we will never forget. i feel so much better knowing that i have a strong relationship with God and now i am making sure all of my friends have a relationship with God because i want them to come with me to the heavens to here God say "well done my good and faithful servant"before i went to dare to share i had little faith with my parents fighting i thought why would this awsome God they talk about do this to me? but i know now that it was only a test because my parents have slowed down on the fighting and my prayers were answered. even when i got back my mom told me that she could tell i was at peace with more things in my life and i just want to thank you for helping me with that and i will never forget this awsome thing that u have helped me do.Thank you again Megan

    • Hey Greg, this was my third Dare 2 Share trip and what never ceases to amaze me is how much God moves in our youth group.  When you gave the chance to call up our lost friends and share Christ with them, the guy I called couldn’t talk, but another girl in our group called someone else from our school, and four of us prayed over their conversation; I have not felt God in that kind of way in so long.  It was so amazing to see how people I know and love were changed with a newfound passion to reach their friends for Christ. My friend, a unitarian universalist, called back a couple hours later on the way home, and we talked for about ten minutes before his phone died.  I tried to just open up a conversation about Jesus and who he really is.  While he hasn’t come to Christ, I am still amazed to see how our group of 25 students came together and prayed while the phone conversations were going on.   Thank you so much for your ministry to me; I know the last three years of my life would not be the same if I had not gone to Dare 2 Share

    • Hey Greg, I know that you’ve heard a lot from the youth from New Life Baptist in Auburn, KY, but you’re going to hear some more! :) I met you on Saturday night in Nashville, I’m also apart of the F.I.S.H. group at my school.  I still can’t believe how totally awesome Dare 2 Share was!  I went expecting nothing from God, just some cute stories from old preachers and a road trip with my friends, but I came back with a purpose and God holding my hand.  I agree with Cameron, (read his comment above) that we should not walk but RUN with God.  I didn’t take the 48 hour challenge but does 72 count?  I called the friend that I had cried so hard for on Friday night and I asked her if she had a relationship with Jesus Christ.  I tried to explain the GOSPEL with her, but she just doesn’t understand.  I got out my card and tried again, but no such luck from 2000 miles away.  (I moved)  Anyway….I just wanted to let you know how awesome God and the Dare 2 Share team did in Nashville.  Keep it up!  Please pray for me.   Brokenhearted, Kayla

    •  Hey! I just wanted to let you know that the conference was awsome! A friend of mine went that my church e-team(we went to the Dare-2-Share canference in Charlotte, N. Carolina last year) has been praying for, for a long time. And she got saved! I came back with a fire to witness. Also I’ve used the "no Bible, no breakfast" deal, except my version is "no prayer, no breakfast". I pray for my lost friends, or I don’t eat! Thanks for doing what God’s called you to do, and keep doing it!
