My Wife’s 20 Year High School Reunion

Oh boy…I can’t wait! (insert sarcastic tone and groan here)

This weekend I "get" to go with my wife to her twentieth high school reunion. There’s nothing like shaking hands with people you’ve never met, trying to remember their names and awkwardly standing by as your spouse walks down memory lane with all her old friends. Old rivals, old boyfriends and old teachers…oh my!

I’m sure everybody will be primped up, pimped out, worked over and sucked in so that they can look good for everyone else.

It’s funny how quickly we can revert back to high school weirdness (okay, teens, this part is for my "older" readers) when we get around our old high school friends. The feelings and insecurities of the teen years somehow boil to the surface once again at these reunion type events. The same hesitance about looks, popularity and weight and all that jazz can come storming back to the frontlines of our self image in nothing flat.

That’s the thing about my wife. She doesn’t need to fret. Seriously, she has a timeless beauty that caught my attention about nineteen years ago that hasn’t let me go…ever…not once.

Debbie still takes my breath away. I find her utterly attractive.

And this attractiveness doesn’t come from her beautiful red hair, her wonderful complexion or her riveting eyes. It comes from her soul. I Peter 3:3 and 4 puts it this way, "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight."

Thank you Lord for a wife who doesn’t need to contrive a fading, temporary beauty that is championed by the world. Thank you that you have blessed me with a wife who has true beauty, a beauty from inside that shines on the outside. Thank you that she still takes my breath away. Thank you that you have given me a wife that will always be drop dead gorgeous to me.

And, about this weekend Lord, do not leave me or forsake me. I’ll be leaning on you a lot this weekend.

    Signed, Greg Stier

      • Hey Greg, I hear ya man!  I dreaded the big 20 reunion so much I just skipped it (it didn’t hurt that I was 1000 miles away, at least 70 pounds bigger - YIKES – and the tickets were $85.00 a piece!)  May the Lord be with you as you venture into the unknown. By the way, next time you are in Chi-town (Chicago…Chicago), look me up.  Julie and I would love to see you.  Who knows, maybe she’d cook you a homemade dinner.  (We only live about 15 minutes from Willow Creek and about 20 minutes from O’Hare.)  You can contact me at http://www.calvary.ws. Keep up the great work you are doing with Dare 2 Share. Blessings, Scott Eaton

      • I’m sure your wife would be tickled pink to see what you wrote about her and I’m sure she knows exactly how you feel and what you think of her. I’ve experienced in my life that the other person never truly understands your feelings for them. They seem to think sometimes that maybe such words are simply there to comfort and that they don’t have any deeper truer meaning. However, I’m sure your wife loves you more than you realize too. It goes both ways. You’re in my prayers brother. ps. I can’t wait for D2S. Even as an adult it fires me up, oh and my sister may be having her child around the time of the Denver D2S.
