Mighty Warriors

Check out I Chronicles 11 and you will read about David’s 30 mighty warriors. These guys were a little crazy (okay, they were a lot crazy) and were willing to do anything to support David in his God given quest to rule a nation. I love the way Scripture puts it, "These were the chiefs of David’s mighty men—they, together with all Israel, gave his kingship strong support to extend it over the whole land, as the LORD had promised."
Take a look at some of their heroics:
"Abishai the brother of Joab was chief of the Three. He raised his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed"
"Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, who performed great exploits. He struck down two of Moab’s best men. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion."
The list of their mighty acts of valor goes on and on. Although I have no idea why a guy would go down into a pit on a snowy day to kill a lion it astounds me nonetheless.
The bottom line is that David had 30 mighty warriors that helped him in his mission to lead God’s people to victory. It’s this same brand and breed of warrior that John Wesley was longing for when he said, "Give me one hundred men who fear nothing but sin and love nothing but God and I will shake the gates of hell and usher in the kingdom of God."
Well, I am no Wesley and I’m definitely no David, but I thank God for the mighty warriors that he has surrounded our ministry with. Here are just a few:
- Our Dare 2 Share staff, the few, the humble, the marines.
- Our prayer partners who supply much needed "air support" as the war rages on.
- Donors who help us win in the battlefield through their sacrificial giving and willingness to recruit others to fight for the souls of our young people.
- Youth leaders who are the commanders in the trenches.
- Parents who lead the charge from home, setting the pace by winning the war on the homefront.
- Students who are on the frontlines everyday sharing their faith and spreading the good news.
"Thank you Lord for the mighty warriors you have raised up for our ministry, not for our sake, but for the sake of your kingdom, and for the sake of the teenagers of the world that desperately need the hope that comes through Christ and him crucified. Raise up an army, not 30, not 100, but tens of thousands who will live and give the gospel so loud that the gates of hell are crashed, dashed and destroyed by their reverberations. Raise up enough to turn this nation, this planet, back to you wholeheartedly. Bring glory to yourself and your name as your church marches forth in victory on the battlefield, until that day that our Commander and Chief, your Son, comes and rescues us once and for all from this dark and sinful world. You are our victory God. Our eyes are on you."
