    I’m an idiot

Posted on Monday 23 June 2008 by Greg @ 12:34 pm
    Filed under: Rants

Okay, so you know how I wrote in my last blog about my busy two weeks coming up? My nephew’s wedding in Des Moines scrunched between two major ministry trips.

But then my wife got the wedding invitation yesterday and read it. And re-read it. Then she re-re read it one last time.

I was on the way to the mall, getting some last minute items for the triple trips in the next two weeks. The conversation went something like this:

“Did you talk to your brother about coming to Des Moines this week?”

“Um, well, I talked to him about coming to Des Moines. I’m assuming he knows we are talking about this week.”

She pauses, “Well, you are not going to like this. But I just read the invitation and it says the wedding is on July 26th, not June 28th.”

    “Um……”

    “Call your brother.”

I did and he confirmed that I am an idiot.

This is the worst scheduling mistake I have ever made. I knew that I would be flying in from Creationfest to attend my nephews wedding. But there are two Creationfests (east and west) and I’m speaking at both. I got my festivals mixed up and put my nephew Tommy’s wedding date down on the Creation East week instead of the Creation West week.

I guess, at the very least, it’s good that I didn’t find out once we landed in Des Moines. All dressed up and no place to go…and in Iowa of all places.

Did I mention that I’m an idiot?

    Signed, Greg Stier

      • That is so sad. I do that all the time. Double booked and overworked.
So now what? Do you go to the wedding? Do you try to cram it in even farther?

      • Dear Greg,

I’m not sure who writes the Soul Fuel or if there are different authors each time, but I want you to know that I really enjoyed the recent one “You’ve got Hell.” There just one thing in there that is questionable to me, the author talks about Jesus referring to the Rapture in Matthew 24. They say this:

“Two men will be working together in the field; one will be taken, the other left. Two women will be grinding flour at the mill; one will be taken, the other left. Matthew 24:30-31; 37-41.

I do not believe that this is referring to the rapture at all. Jesus does not mention the rapture in Matthew 24 because He did not desire to reveal that yet. If these verses are referring to the rapture and Matt. 24 was written chronologically (as I believe it is) then the author of this Soul Fuel would be adhering to a post-trib or mid-trib view of the rapture. If they do, that’s their prerogative, but I’m just curious if they got the scriptures mistaken. The rapture is mentioned in 1 Thess. 4, just as the author said but the verses quoted in Matthew 24 seem to me to line up with the 2nd coming of Christ and those who will walk into the New Jerusalem with Him and those who won’t.

        Your thoughts?

        Very respectfully,

        < Jh

      • Hey Justin-

Thanks so much for the encouragement with Soul Fuel. To clarify and hopefully answer your excellent question- I do hold to the pre-trib view- and I believe that Matthew 24 has double references. here is an excellent study to which I would refer you for further explanation-

Thanks for all the work you do. I’m just finishing up my first year as a youth leader and the very first study we did was “The Gospel Journey”, which was awesome! The kids loved it and it was great to see them really dig into the scripture and watch them grow.
        Thanks again.

      • Hey Greg,

There are plenty of things to do in Des Moines. You can go cow tipping. Tour the Captiol buidling. Wrangle up some pigs, because, as you know, according to many in California, pigs run wild here.

Seriously though, now that you have your dates straight, I hope that you enjoy our great city when you come.

      • Hey, buddy.
Since you are admitting to the “i” word, there would probably be no better place than IOWA, which is the acrostic assigned by one of my friends as “Idiots Out Wandering About”.
        Peace out, Greg :-)
PS – I will sell her e-mail address to the highest bidder from the great state of Iowa! (or anyone else).
