If all dogs go to heaven then where do all cats go?

    I bet you can guess.

Okay. So by now you have surmised that I’m a dog person. Yes, I am the kind of person that needs reassurance in the form of a "Hey I’m glad to see you" tail wag (verses a "Hey, get off my couch" cat hiss.)

Now before all you cat people extend your verbal claws at me let me explain my aversion to cats:

First of all they seem smart. Too smart. They look like they’re thinking, plotting and planning…something evil. They’re sure not strategizing on how to make the world a better place but rather how to get their owners out of the way so that they can take over the house.

Smart pets scare me. IQ should never be attached to something that licks itself clean.

I’m convinced that the best pets are somewhat stupid (or, to be politically correct, dumb as a box of rocks.)

The second reason I don’t like cats is that they are independent. They go where they want when they want. Most cats don’t do well with the whole, "Sit. Stay. Roll over." commands of dog-world. They’d rather curl, purr and scratch at their own leisure thank you very much. Tell a cat to "play dead" and their glare tells you to "drop dead."

Thirdly, hair balls. Or, as I like to call them, "Cough. Cough. Ewwwww!"

Why do I like dogs? They’re mostly happy, kind of dumb (hey, take it up with "The Dumb Friends League" if you don’t like that term) and they can actually protect a house from intruders. Well, some of them can anyway.

I just bought my wife a miniature weiner dog who is a dapple (so we named him "Patches".) We lost our first and much loved weiner dog "Shadow" six months ago so I got my wife a new mini for her birthday. Suffice it to say that all four and a half pounds of him won’t be able to do much home security (unless nibbling on an intruder’s toe nails counts!)

He’s small, cute and simpleminded. I love him.

And, for all you cat lovers out there, I’m sure you feel the same way about your four legged feline friend. Just because I don’t get it doesn’t mean it’s not real love.

Who knows? Someday maybe cat lovers and dog lovers can live together in perfect pet harmony. I mean if the lion can lay down with the lamb during the rule and reign of Christ then maybe the lab can lay down with the Siamese.

    Or maybe not.

    Signed, Greg Stier

Lets say it has to do with my grandfather’s dog biting my foot for no reason, and wouldn’t let go for about 30 seconds, all the time in which i was flinging my foot around the room trying to get him off. My family calls it funny, I call it tramatizing! Another reason for my aversion to dogs is that they take too much work. THey don’t do well functioning on thier own. Cats rule!

      • Actually, cats are wonderful.  They aren’t needy, like dogs and they don’t slobber.  They don’t take a drink from their water bowl and slosh three-quarters of it out of their mouths across the entirety of the kitchen floor.  They also use a litterbox, so you don’t have to go out and hunt all over the yard for an afternoon for evidence they’ve been there, or suffer stepping in said evidence first.  You can leave a cat, when you go on vacation, with enough food and water and they’ll be just fine when you return–no boarding fees necessary.  They don’t empty the trashcan, beg at the table, or chew your precious possessions into oblivion.  Dogs certainly have their place, but I’ll take cats any day, thanks.

Dogs don’t kill things and they are more like, well, companions. Cats are, as you said, independent. You can’t go running with your cat or take it biking. Dogs can get used to new people easily too. Therefore, dogs are way better for me.

      • Hello, Greg!  Nice post on dogs & cats.  We’ve had our cats for about 14 years, and as much as I love cats, I’m tired of the fleas, hair on the furniture & throw pillows, and hairballs.  That’s just nasty.  One of our cats wised up and taught herself how to use the toilet.  That’s okay, but now she wants her privacy!  Just disgusting! Anyway, I have a question for you.  I attended the D2S conference waaaaaay baaaaack in the day when it was at Columbus, Ohio.  The group performed a short drama (?) and I’m not sure what you called it, but it was about The Advocate/Accuser and two teenage girls who had recently died, and were being judged for Heaven.  I hope you know what I’m talking about; at least, I would think the D2S group is performing this one-act play at all conferences because it is very powerful. I’ve been telling our play director at our church about this, and she is very interested in it.  Would it be possible to purchase this script for our own use?  If you would be so kind as to send the information to me, or refer this question to the proper "authorities" on the D2S team, I would appreciate it. Thanks for your time, Greg, and God bless your ministry! P.S.  Did you say you were a Liberty grad?  I thought that’s what you said in Columbus…..I’m from the Class of ‘83!  Nice to meet ya!

      • I’m with you on that Greg. Even though I think that some cats can be nice, that is to certain people.I once had a cat. He loved me but didn’t like my mom. That could be because she doesn’t like animals. I am a huge dog person. I don’t dress up my dog or let her on my bed or anything but I talk to her. You could call me crazy.

      • My dog loves my cats, but the cats just put up with my dog.  I think that my golden retriever is so much cooler that my cats, but I still love my cats.  I hate the smell of cats though; the litter box is absolutely disgusting! My dog thinks that the world revolves around her and that everbody was made to pet her.  Goldens rule! (cats are just cool)
