Hoping to make it to Phoenix

Posted on Friday 2 March 2007 by Greg @ 10:33 am
Filed under: Rants

Pray that I’m able to make it out of Chicago O’Hare today in time for the Dare 2 Share conference in Phoenix tonight. Right now as I look out the window I see snow and blustery winds on the ugly tarmacs of Chicago. As I look up at the arrival/departure computer monitors I see some delayed flights (eeek!) and some cancelled ones (eeek2!) But so far my 11:55am flight is still on.

What’s weird is that I NEVER come in on Friday of the event. I’m anal about everyone getting there the night before. This is the first time in 15 years that I have arrived at an off site city (aka "Not Denver") on the Friday of the event. Goes to show you why I’m so anal about getting in the city early.

Yeah, yeah I have a back up plan (my Puerto Rican brother from another mother Jose Zayas) but I hate to put the burden of a Dare 2 Share friday night on his shoulders. I know that he’d do a good job…there’s just A LOT of stuff to remember.

What am I doing in Chicago? Yesterday…two training seminars at Willow Creek (they were a lot of fun!) and today a Bible study with business executives downtown (they were a lot of fun too!)

So here’s the prayer list:

  • Pray that I make it in on time to Phoenix this afternoon.
  • Pray for the teens to be impacted and transformed this weekend.
  • Pray that all of our March conferences rock (for his glory of course!)

I remember hearing this quote when I was a teenager, "Satan laughs at our strategies. He mocks at our efforts. But he trembles when we pray."

Make the Devil tremble with me by getting on your knees right now and asking God to do something HUGE for his BIG name this weekend.

Signed, Greg Stier

    • I am praying for you Greg.  There seems to be something about you and snowstorms lately.  I mean just look what happened in Lincoln last weekend and now you’re in it again.  I pray that you make it and that everything goes as awesomely well as it did in Lincoln last weekend.

    • God will take care of it. He already planned tonight. He’ll get the glory one way or another! And I’m praying that He does. Enjoy the snow! It’s like a million little pieces of God’s awesomeness- when they all unite together in a blanket on the ground, and the sun shines on them, it’s blinding. Oooh, I just made an analogy! Each snowflake is different- just like each of His children. And when we united for God, and the Son shines through us, darkness doesn’t stand a chance. Happy flying!

    • Hey Greg.  I am one of the girls from the Willow Conference who shared our Gospel Journey story with you.  Here it is: For the past 5 summers, we have been telling hundreds of Angel Tree kids about the hope they can find in Jesus.  (Angel Tree kids all have a parent in prison).  The middle school camps are by far the most difficult and challenging and rewarding week of the summer.  This past summer, we decided to use The Gospel Journey at our middle school girls camp.  We really liked how the whole story of God, from Genesis to Revelation, was told in a way that is easy to understand.  Every year we give the campers the opportunity to pray with a counselor to ask Jesus into their lives - usually seeing a couple of decisions each year.  This year we made that same opportunity available after the video about Jesus dying for our sins.  It was very powerful.  We had planned on having just myself and my co-leader stay behind in the chapel for any girls who wanted to pray while other counselors went to their cabins for discussions with their groups.  As we started dismissing girls to their cabins, most of them weren’t leaving.  I was in awe - almost HALF of our girls stayed behind in the chapel to either give their lives to Jesus for the first time or to rededicate themselves to Him.  We even had a high school service counselor rededicate her life!  There were whole cabin groups that stayed behind!  I remember the smiles and tears and the looks of hope and joy on the faces of the girls I prayed with.  I will never forget their faces!  The great part is that the story didn’t end there - we had the privelage to go on with hope in learning about the resurrection of Jesus and spending eternity with him!  We had more girls come to Jesus in the following days!  PRAISE GOD!!!  To this day, I am still in awe of the power of the story of God.

    • Hey Greg, thanks for taking time out to speak with the conference attendees at Willow this week. God has you doing some amazing things for kids, parents, and youth leaders. I was the big, bald guy who got all emotional, so emotional that I didn’t really get to tell you how much your book, Ministry Mutiny meant to me. A few months ago, I was Tyler Cooper. I was ready to throw in the towel. Your book, along with the prayers of some of my closest friends, gave me the boost I needed to stay in the game. Thank you for all you are doing for the Kingdom.
