Here we are in Lincoln!!!

Posted on Friday 22 February 2008 by Greg @ 1:25 pm
Filed under: Rants

It’s hard to believe that Dare 2 Share is here, once again, in beautiful downtown Lincoln! This town, er, village, er, city may be small in size compared to an Omaha or Denver but it is HUGE in heart. Every year the city of Lincoln, Nebraska throws its arms wide open to greet us and we gladly reciprocate.

The attendance of our Lincoln conference as compared to some of our largest cities is pretty amazing. The attendance here smokes Atlanta, Seattle, Phoenix and Columbus (yes, I’m taunting you other cities…take a cue from my cornhusking friends and bring your friends to your own Dare 2 Share conference!:)

As a matter of fact the Lincoln Dare 2 Share Conference is our third largest in attendance. First and second is pretty much a draw between Denver and St. Louis (around 9,000) and Lincoln is already at 6,500! Why not more? Because we can’t really hold that much more at the Pershing Center!

What really excites me is not just the number of teenagers, youth groups and churches attending, it’s the potential impact of all of them when they return to their communities spread across Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa, etc….

God is raising up an army of evangelists to lovingly, gently, confidently proclaim the Name and fame of Jesus to all their friends! God is going to use them in BIG ways to make a difference in their neighborhoods and campuses!

Okay, I can’t believe what I’m about to type….

Go Big Red!

Call me a sell out. No, better yet, call Lincoln a sell out.

Signed, Greg Stier

    • Lincoln is probably a good place, but you know that you love Columbus, Ohio a lot more!!! Haha! Just Kidding!! :P

But I do pray that you and the Dare2Share staff have an amazing, God moving, supernatural time there, and I pray that all the youth there will be changed for life and touched just as I was.

    • I can’t believe you’re taunting Columbus!!! The best city in the world!! No, I’m kidding! But I hope that everyone who attends Dare2share leaves with a new or better relationship with God. And I don’t know how warm it is there, but since it was cold in Columbus, I hope you all stay warm during the outreach thing! And make sure you tell them, “If the house looks scary, it is. If the person looks like they just killed someone, they did!” My friends and I are laughing at that all the time!!! It was hysterical!!!! Well, good luck!!!!

    • Hey Hey Greg! Just got back from the second night of D2S in Lincoln!!!!! Friday with the drama and the prayers after the drama changed my life!!! I was so excited to share the word of God with my friends. We as in me and my friends all were crying after the drama and prayers cause we all felt like God extended his arm and wraped it around us.
At lunch break saturday… Me and my friends went to get food on the way back a less fortunent came to our attention and I used Dare to Share Feild Guide by the end of our convo this man was sure a room was waiting in heaven for him! This weekend was the BEST weekend of my life thanks for the sermons that made it so great and the books that saved this less fortunent man.
      See ya Next Year!!

    • Hey Greg! I just wanted to let you know that this conference really affected me, last years I had a blast and felt reconnected with God but this one it touched the issues I’ve been struggling with. I’m a cutter, it started when I was in 6th grade and it carried on through till the summer of 10th grade. I’m currently at this moment 6 days away from being clean from cutting for 7 months. Even though it’s been almost 7 months every time I hear the word cutting I freeze. It’s been something I’ve struggled with for years and it’s still hard to get over but this weekend it really helped, it made cutting seem a lot easier to go on without. Also Zane’s speech about his battle with drugs, alcohol, and sex really got to me as well. I have a lot of friends who do drugs and even though I’ve never done them it’s constant peer pressure to do them by my friends. However alcohol is another story, I wouldn’t say I drink a lot but if I get the chance to go out and party and there’s alcohol there I never pass it up. My drinking I guess leads to bad things, which this is where the sex comes in. Most of the time when I cross the line, it’s typically when I’m intoxicated. I’m not saying that I never soberly cross that line but alcohol usually plays a part in it. Hearing how Zane led his life and almost lost scares me that what if that happens to me. This weekend helped me open my eyes to how badly I am screwing up my life. Just tonight as soon as I get home my cousin offers to get me some alcohol and what do I do, accept it. I’m not really sure what that means but I think it’s me trying to say that what if I can’t forgive myself for what I’ve done in the past and that even though god may forgive me, I can’t forgive myself so I continue to do the same thing over again.

Me saying all that doesn’t mean this weekend hasn’t affected me, I accepted alcohol but I have drank it, I’m not as ashamed of the scars on my arm as I was last week. I’m reconnected with God again and I really hope to stay that way. And I’m hoping that through him I’ll be able to forgive myself and move on. I hope that next year was as deep as this year was. I know you have a lot of people to pray for, but could you pray for me to help me with these issues that I’m having trouble with.

      God bless!

    • Hey Greg,
This years conference was so awesome. Not only was it my second year but it was also a time of understanding and comming to christ not only for me but for four of my friends. I Can’t wait till next year. In my youth group it seems like I’m the only one who shows up (other that one other person) but I show up not just because I want to It’s also because I like to and I love comming so much that I’m now President of it. In Linkoln There is a small amount of seats in the Pershing Center, but in Omaha or in Council Bluffs, there is so many seats in the Quest Center (Omaha) and in the Mid-America Center (Council Bluffs). I would love it if you could e-mail me sometime, my e-mail is huge_blondie_2012@yahoo.com

      Thank You,

There’s a kid at my school who is like crazy smart. He doesn’t know Christ but he knows about the Christian faith. I’ve talked to him about the Gospel, but him being a smart alek, threw it all back in my face with some reverse phsycallogy remark or a tough question. He says there is no meaning to life except to keep the pop. going and that Jesus Christ dying for our sins and everything else in the Bible is a joke. I can’t get through to this guy. What do I tell him?

    • I had an amazing time at D2S this year. This year has had a deep impact on my life. I am now closer to God and I realize that all the stuff that I have done in the past is nothing and that I am pure again because of the forgiveness of God. I hope to have many more years to come where I can become even closer with him. So I was thinking if you moved D2S to the Quest Center in Omaha a lot more teenagers would come. I had so many friends who wanted to go this year but they couldn’t cause it was all sold out.

Thanks for sharing the word of God with me.

    • Thank You Greg for writing the book “You’re Next” right now I am on page 87 and it really is very eye opening for me to see all the things you go and or gone through but to me people just don’t want a CHRISTian book but one with alot of nasty stuff in it. They don’t understand that reading a CHRISTian book can and will make a impact on those around you.

    • Hey Greg,

Lincoln absolutely rocked! I was so moved, and God changed my heart through the conference this year. I have been attending in Lincoln for eight years now, since I was 12. This was the best conference yet.

I was so thankful that you all were honest with our teens about sex. I was so glad that someone was straight up about God’s gift of sex. We need to take it seriously.

I have one concern, though, I thought it would be really confusing for a teenage girl when you said that girls need to dress conservatively and respect men’s purity. Also, also you said women struggle with purity as well, but with the very next breath Derwin was asked to remove his jacket to show off his tight shirt, his guns, and his wiggling pecks. Now, as men maybe you didn’t realize this, but as a woman I thought it was foolish.

I just wanted to be honest and voice my concern for other conferences. Thank you for your commitment to our savior Christ and his call on your life.

    • Hi my name is Mitch Van Engen and I am 14 yeas old and I attended the Dare 2 Share in Lincoln, Nebraska. My story is about my best friend whom i have known for 13 years. His name is Ben Hersberg. Ben has not been a Christian, I have been sharing the gospel with him for a long as I can remember. He started going to church with me when we were 4. He had known about God, just not what he could do in his life. When you told us on Saturday to call a friend we knew wasn’t a Christian, I knew instantly who i was calling. At first I hesitated, the ,Greg, you said something that changed that, you said “If your not going to call listen to me. If you din’t call you could die or you might never see them again, then they would be doomed.” That changed my oppinion. I called Ben. We started talking, then I asked if he wanted to pray to ask Christ into his herat. He said yes and I went to the hall to pray with him. He repeated everything I said. After the prayer he asked me how to why Jesus died for us. I told him, “When Adam and Eve sinned for the first time God was devistated. He could no longerwalk with us. So he made up a plan that He would send a ‘lamb’ to shed its blood. That ‘lamb’ was Christ.” After I was done Ben got this Joyfilled voice like I’ve never heard and he said,”Thanks Mitch, that is the best thing that ha ever happened to me!” I asked him how he felt. He said he felt light and fluffy. Those ten minuets, that I wouldn’t have had if it wasn’t for God’s work through you, were the best ten minuets of my life. Just to see and know that my best friend will meet me in Heaven with Christ. It’s amazing how God can use me to prepare him for 10 years and in 10 minuets change his life. WOW! God Bless You Greg Stier! And thak you!
