I don't think that my distaste for a place in which the impious suffer for all eternity is derived from my own ignorance.

"of course we disagree. Lets talk anyway"

Hey, Greg - one of the latest issues of Christian Research Journal explored this very topic in their usual, scholarly way. (Not online; you have to order it at www.equip.org, but well worth it.)

Hey, Greg, I just goose bumps! It's one of those topics that you have to think about, but realy don't want to at the same time...when ever I do think on it my head starts to hurt and my heart starts to ache for all of the people that are like those roofer friends of yours...it's sad, but that's why we are here!

Hell makes a lot of sense. After all, if God alone is good, that means that the only enjoyable things and the only fine things are where he is. If he gives people the right to withdraw from him, there has to be some place apart from everything that is good, doesn't there? Just before the end of the Revelation to John, God's people are called out of Babylon so that the city can be thrown down. It's a question of the good things leaving as much as it is of the bad ones being cast out. "The light of a lamp will never shine in you again, and the voices of a bridegroom and bride will never be heard in you again."

I often think of two things C.S. Lewis said:

"My argument against God was that the universe seemed so cruel and unjust. But how had I got this idea of just and unjust? A man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line. What was I comparing this universe with when I called it unjust?"

and

"Badness is only spoiled goodness."

See you in the new Jerusalem, if not before...

Thank You, Abba. Thanks for Reminding me through your servant Greg that my 'Fear' of You is SO MUCH MORE than 'Respect' as so many interpret that word. Thank You, O Holy God, for Revealing the difference between 'Fear' and 'Respect' in Luke 12:5. Here You Showed me what it looks like when 'Respect' replaces 'Fear' in that verse as Jesus Describes Whom we should 'respect': "But I will show you whom you should respect: Respect him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, respect him." Shaking in fear and trembling in awe of Your Holy Love.
