Happy 4th of July

Posted on Tuesday 4 July 2006 by Greg @ 9:00 am
Filed under: Rants

I hope that you have a day full of fun, feasting and fireworks. That’s what the Stier clan is planning on.

But in the midst of our sparkler swinging, hot dog chomping and fireworks watching, let’s not forget what the 4th of July is all about. Just last night I had the chance to explain the real meaning of Independence Day to my five year old Jeremy. I told him about the men and women who sacrificed their lives so that we could live in freedom. I told him that God has blessed us with a blessing that others paid for with their lives.

Let’s pause and consider in the midst of the mayhem. Pause to pray for our troops and for their families. And, no matter what your political leanings, pause to thank God for the privilege of living in a free nation where we all can have political and spiritual leanings.

What does Independence Day mean to you?

Signed, Greg Stier

    • I won’t be doing any thing special, however I am awaiting my best friend’s return from boot camp, so the war as it has with my brother, hits home and I realize the sacrifice of my loved ones.

    • greg, your words are very true….we are a blessed nation…which too often too many people forget how blessed and at what price…i guess the independence and the freedom of our country really hit home with me when i was at a bible study last night…we were all going through our discussion, when someone brought up how christians in places like china have to go against the law to share the "Good News"…and that just really hit me that we our so blessed to be able to talk freely about our amazing God and of His love for us….yet at the same time so many…myself being guilty of this too….are not taking advantage of our freedom because we are not seizing every opportunity to share the gospel to everyone when it is so desperately needed….when so many have died and are still dying to give us that freedom to share….may everyone finish out their july 4th safely and remember what our countrymen and women have and are dying for.

    • Hey greg great blog. My family has always celeabrated the 4th of July ever since me and my sisters were tiny babies. I was so ouched and shocked tonight we we gathered at the dinner table and my sister thanked god right off the bat or our freedom. I have always get so frusterated when people spend lots of money on fireworks and food but very few actually stop to thank god for our independance. Tonight I spent the night with my family and we had a great time but we didnt forget the whole reason for Independance Day. Talk to you losers later.
