Creation West is the Best

Posted on Saturday 29 July 2006 by Greg @ 7:31 am
Filed under: Rants

I just finished a two sermon stint at Creation West. What a great event! Pastor Harry does an excellent job coordinating power house Christian bands and preachers who get to actually deliver the Word of God in between the bands.

Unlike many other Christian music festivals Creation puts a premium on preaching. Nobody is breaking down the drum sets or doing sound checks while the Word of God is being communicated.

I had the privilege of delivering two sermons from the main stage. The first was my "Rebels, Posers and Losers" talk (David and Goliath) and one called "Fanatics for the cross" (based on 1 Corinthians 1:10-18.) The rebels, posers and losers definitely went better than the fanatics one. I guess every sermon can’t be a homerun. Sometimes you have to settle for a base hit That’s what I’ve been told anyway. I don’t know if I buy it.

Anyway, I gave the folks out at Creation the good old "48 Hour Challenge". The clock starts ticking tonight when they get back home. How many of them will tell that one friend the good news of Jesus in the next two days? Pray for them to share Jesus boldly and wisely with their friends.

See you "losers" later.

Signed, Greg Stier

    • Hey Greg, As someone who has to preach a different message to the same people every week I feel your "preaching pain."  But take heart - I was at a conference once with a really big name preacher who is on the radio and while I was listening to him I actually fell asleep!  (Not Swindoll - I love the guy!)  I thought it was a pretty boring sermon.  So while we wish they could all be home runs, sometimes we have to settle for singles or doubles.  God forbid we ever strike out - something I have never heard you do. • Hi Greg,     I can identify with the base hit analogy and even feel I strike out sometimes while ministering to our youth.  Occassionally when I am feeling like this, a young person will come up and tell me the impact that I had on them.  I can tell you that the youth group that I help with had some great and meaningful talks at our camp that were inspired by both of your sermons.                                                        Ken

    • Hey Mr. Stier!  Well, i dont mean to be rude but i dont know what you’re talking about when you say one of them wasnt as good as the other! As long as you’re preaching the Word, God is using that just the same as any other sermon!! You were awesome, and everyone at my church this week loved your sermons the best. My friend and i are taking your 48 hour challenge. We’re actually going to be talking to about 20 people! So i’m really nervous but i thank you for delivering the message of courage this week. I’ve realized that i’ve got to lose it all…these people need Jesus. THANK YOU!! and may God bless you. Alaina

I relized that I wasnt a loser! Then God told me "wake up Micalah you can be doing so much more"! So i took ur 48 challenge with the help of God and hope I can get to one person in particular! Thanks again! I look forward to hearing you speak again!          ~Micalah

    • Greg: I’ve heard both sermons (or the gist of both) a few times; you’re an awesome speaker and every time I hear you I feel really excited about talking to my friends about Christ. Right now as a matter of fact I’m congratulating my friend on being clean off of drugs for three months. He’s going through depression now, though, and thinks his life is worthless. After getting the 48 hour challenge again at Creation, I totally saw the opportunity. I keep bringing the Gospel home, and if it wasn’t for "being a fanatic for Christ," he wouldn’t get any of it. But he at least sees in me that I have something more than the people he does dope with. So I just wanted to say "thank you" for remind me again with both sermons why I can’t stop telling my friend about Christ. –Jordanne P.S. It would also be awesome if you could pray for him.

    • Greg- My group is really excited about being Losers and not Posers. I bought the "GOSPEL Journey" video series and am excited about using it for youth group training. One of my youth went down and prayed to recieve Christ over the weekend at Creation West and she is on fire!! Very cool. Anyways, kind of curious about the one day evangelism conference at Luis Palau center. Do you have anymore info on that? I think it was supposed to be in October. Great job bringing the Gospel to life and making it applicable to all people in order to spread the news. JAKE BREECE><> Youth Pastor and co-loser

    • It was great to hear you speaking again. I have been to Dare 2 Share twice in Denver in 02, and 03. In 2002 when I went is when I first put my life in the hands of God. Your speaking really got through to me. So I was thrilled to see your name on the roster as a speaker for Creation 06. This was my first year being at Creation. I have to say that if it wasn’t the best experience of my life, it is one of the best. And I have to say that all my friends gave me a weird look when i screamed "Hey Religion Man!" right before you did, because I knew exactly when you would say it.

    • (sniff) I wanted to go so bad. (sniffle) I’m so glad that it went well. (sniff again)I’m sure that the fanatics one was still great, but the Rebels, poser, loser one is tough to beat. (Even though it’s kinda the only one that I’ve heard you do) Anyway (hiccup) glad it went well. L8r. Signing off, Ashley

    • Greg, great blog. I actually keep a copy of your fanatic for the cross cd handy. Sometimes I too feel like I am the last at bat, bases loaded, two strikes, behind by one. Listening to someone who shares my conviction about the deapth of the "cross talk" reminds me that God’s word never returns void, and those who are called will come to the cross. And every "home run" is proceeded by some teen (reminding me Jesus already pinch hit for me) responding to the Gospel. I think these blogs speak that loud and clear. Like you say "the rest is just details". BTW, cant wait for the new book (I am ready for some conviction) and I cought most of the big fish down here, so Maui was probably the better choice.
