Invincible Youth Ministry Conference Tour

A Week Away

Posted on Monday 1 May 2006 by Greg @ 10:15 am
Filed under: Home Sweet Home and Rants

This is going to be a tough week. Although I’m on the road A LOT, I’m very rarely gone for a full week. This is one of those rare stretches of extended time of back-to-back ministry stuff like:

  • A Columbus area Youth Leader Training Lunch
  • Two fundraising events
  • Youth Ministry Executive Council in DC (top youth ministry leaders brainstorming about reaching every teen in the country for Jesus…cool stuff)
  • A Youth Leader Training Conference in DC
  • Various meetings with the President and key Senators (just kidding!)

Pray that this week goes well, not just for me, but for my family while I’m gone.

Pray for my loving, patient, compassionate and courageous wife, Debbie, as she manages a packed schedule and two very active children (5 year old Jeremy and 19 month old Kailey) while I’m gone.

I have a love/hate relationship with travel. On one hand I’m a road warrior. There’s something about airports, rental cars and mapquesting the closest Starbucks with wifi that energizes me. I write a lot on the road. It’s a great time to brainstorm, create and think.

On the other hand I hate leaving my wife and kids at home. I miss taking my family to parks and playing "Bad Tiger-Good Tiger" (don’t ask) with the kids.

Maybe I should buy an RV like Robin Williams in his latest ha-ha film. We could pack the Stier clan on the road and experience America up close and personal.

On second thought…no. Too many speeding tickets. Too many "are we there yet’s". Too many weird roadside greasy spoons (do I hear the sound of deuling banjo’s playing in the background?)

Instead of the whole RV thing I’ll just try to plan shorter trips in the future.

Signed, Greg Stier

    • Hey Greg, have a great week and know the feeling of love/hate on the road, missin family, etc. If you are daring enough, forgo the ‘bucks’ and try a Caribou blend for those that don’t dig the ‘bucks.’ We have a saying friends don’t let friends drink starbucks. Having lived in Minnesota for a while, you just go with the flow and Caribou us king. Either way, have a great trip.

    • As you wifi in said airports you must remember to hum Willy’s "On the Road Again".   –   Your wife and other youth workers wives are the real heros   –   Please tell us that you at least pack your own bags   –   Tell the Pres. we said hi - and my liberal friends have a bit more to say

    • i will pray, greg.  just to let you know, you are so lucky to have the job you have.  i want to do something like it someday.  i want to either be a youth pastor’s wife, a guitar player in the d2s band or even a writer of christian books.  i realize that two out of three of those are pretty big dreams but if god wants me to, i can do it.  i am trying to reach people who read my blog right now.  i am going through roman’s road (the road to salvation).  just pray that i can do it.  you should check it out:  http://cow4jesus.blogspot.com thanx greg, you rock. dont eat yellow snow.

    • Oh the drama of travel! I totally know about the love/hate thing. I HATE the planning, packing, and stressing before hand, but once on the road I can go for hours. Peice of cake. Well, have fun on your week of helping change the hearts of teens, and adults, everywhere. L8r. Signing Off, Ashley

    • Traveling, wow, the whole feeling. Our family vacations consist of getting up @ 3 a.m. then traveling for 5 days on 9 hour days with seven/eight people in a eight seater car while pulling a trailer!!! Oh, hey, I was reading the davotional thingy that you guys send every year. While i clicked an icon that led to another one that was Bible study. It was called ‘the missing link or piece in the puzzle’ or something to that extent, it also was issued on May 23, 2005. I found that intresting because on May 23, 2005, my baby sister Grace (notice that name!!!) was born!!! And she was kinda the ‘missing link’ in our family, plus the name, anyhoo, just found it kinda cool, so I thought I’d mention it. . . Tell the Prez I say Hi!!!
