Invincible Youth Ministry Conference Tour

A Flashback on Steroids

Yesterday I spent all day filming in my old neighborhood. My four tough surviving uncles, my brother and myself spent a day in the back lot of the house on 22nd and Irving Street where we were raised and where many of my crazy stories unfolded in real life thirty something years ago.

My uncle Jack retold the story in the sauna where he beat a guy for interupting his gospel presentation (Jack, a newly converted Christian at the time went "Old Testament" on this guy who was misinterpreting the New Testament…not recommended by the way.)

My uncle Dave showed us his many medals for heroism above and beyond the call of duty and several pieces of shrapnel that had been dug out of his body (one piece by him…ewwww!)

My uncle Bob retold the story of his spiritual wake up call in the back of a squad car after he thought he had beaten a guy to death in a bar room brawl. He shared what a horrible feeling it was thinking that he had actually killed someone. He then went on to talk about the change Jesus brought into his life after.

My uncle Tommy shared about how he and his wife had talked my mom out of aborting me when she confided to them that she was pregnant and thinking about having an abortion (Thanks Tommy and Carol for saving my life!)

My brother, wow, what can I say about him. He shared his passion for Jesus with words and tears that I can’t even begin to describe.

We are going to use this footage for promotional videos for next year’s Invincible Tour and maybe even the website, conference cutaways, etc.

However we use it, it will be a powerful reminder of the power of God for the salvation for everyone who believes…no matter what neighborhood they were raised in or what they can bench press.

Signed, Greg Stier

    • So…would you say that your Uncle Jack was ’steamed’ at the guy who interrupted him? I’m sure he was ready to throw in the towel. what an amazing testimony of God working all things together for good!

    • Love those kinds of things, Greg. Not the bad parts that happened to your kin, but how God takes those things and turns them around. How many people DON’T share Jesus because they’re scared, or they think their friends will think they’re dorks, or whatever? The more fearless you are and the less you care about what people think of you now, the better. Think about what they’d think of you after they die, and you didn’t tell them (I’m admonishing myself, by the way). Funny story: Recently, I was riding the train home from work and heard what sounded like two Muslim men deep in a loud conversation about faith. You could hardly miss the fact that they were talking. I was actually reviewing your Dare 2 Share book and thought, "Perfect opportunity!" I looked for a spot to butt in and start talking about the real God, but was soon glad I kept my trap shut. The men weren’t talking about their faith — the noise on the train had confounded my ears. Instead, the older man was instructing the younger one about the finer details of electrical power distribution boxes!  You can be bold, but use your head … and clean the wax out of your ears.
