Big Love

Posted on Monday 31 July 2006 by Greg @ 5:05 pm
Filed under: God Moments

Almost everyday God provides big opportunities to share his message if we just opened our eyes. The guy in line at the store, the text message from a friend, the buddy at the gym who happens to be there the same time as you today…these are just a few of the small opportunities that can allow God to make a huge impact with his big love in the hearts of all those around us.

One happened to me the other day. When I saw him at first I thought he was about the same age as my boy Jeremy (who is five years old) but after taking my seat next to him on the plane I could tell that he was much older. I’m not sure the politically correct term (“dwarf”, “little person” or “person of short stature”), but this thirteen year old teenager had dwarfism.

After just a few minutes what struck me about him the most was not his lack of height but his abundance of manners. He was well spoken and very polite to the flight attendants who were taking care of us.

As we talked I found out that he was a teenaged actor who was appearing in an upcoming television series. I was impressed. As we continued to talk he told me that he was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

But instead of arguing with him about the tenants of Mormonism verses the creeds of Christianity I just said something like, “Let me ask you a question that I have asked thousands of other teenagers, do you KNOW for sure that you are going to heaven when you die?”

At first he seemed a little surprised by the question, but then he thought about it and answered “I hope so.” I then asked, “If I could tell you how you could KNOW for sure would that be good news?” Without hesitation he said yes.

I opened my Bible to I John 5:13 and had him read the words aloud, “I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you can know that you have eternal life.” Several minutes and a few verses later this young man put his faith and trust in Jesus Christ as his Savior right there on the plane.

What’s the point? There are two.

The first is that everybody needs Jesus. It doesn’t matter if somebody is a dwarf, doorman, dictator, dope dealer, Mormon, miner, monk, mobster or maid. We should share the good news of the gospel with everyone every where we meet them!

Secondly, most of the time the best argument we have as Christians is not an argument at all, it’s the gospel of Jesus. Instead of picking apart somebody else’s belief system it usually is much more effective to share the good news of the gospel. Why? Because the Spirit of God is much better at destroying arguments and pretenses than we are! When he is unleashed into a soul at the moment of salvation he can begin to fix them just like he continues to fix us!

Who is the person you need to tell about Jesus? No matter what their height, weight, eye color, shoe size or religion they need to hear, see and sense the good news of Jesus from you, in you and around you right now. Will you share it with them today?

Don’t miss those opportunities to share God’s big love with those right in front of your face today!

Signed, Greg Stier

    • Good stuff man…I’ve actually run into one guy in our new neighborhood a couple of times and haven’t shared the gospel with him yet.  You know the one guy in the neighborhood that always has a cigarette and beer in hand, and is always blowing smoke in your face (unintentionally of course).  Thanks for the healthy conviction…I never thought I’d say this but I’ll be looking for him now.

    • i had a similiar experience this last week. my youth group and i were traveling to south africa for a mission trip and one of the flights we had to take was from dallas to miami. i was a little bummed out at first due to my seating arrangement, because most of the group was sitting by each other and then there were a few "unlucky" ones that were randomly placed by themselves on the plane…i was one of them…i was sitting next to this little girl and her mom. the little girl was about 8 years old. at first i didn’t really talk to her, but mearly smiled at her from time to time…i was afraid to talk to her because i had laryngitis at the time…and sounded very much like a dying frog….but as our flight came to an end…i ventured out and asked her where she was headed….we talked the rest of the flight and i found out that her name was sarah…i told her about how i was going on a mission trip and why were going ect….by the end of the flight i could tell the little girl wasn’t a christian…so in desperation to tell her about Jesus before we got off the plane, i gave her my testimony paper( a piece of paper that told how and why i became a christian and on the back had the plan of salvation on it and a step by step way to say the prayer)( we were giving them out in south africa)…anyways…as we were literally walking off the plane, i gave her the paper and had her promise me that she would read it so that she wouldn’t forget me….i remember watching her walking away with her family through the terminal, clutching that piece of paper tightly in her hand…..i may never know if she accepts Christ or not, but at least i saw the opportunity to plant the seed.

    • Praise the Lord! Let me tell you something, the Holy Spirit is truly indwelling in you and in great power! Things in Broomfield are getting difficult; difficult but worth it and glorious. There is a small group of intercessors that have been praying non stop. Friday we’ll be setting up a revival tent outside of Broomfield High School and we could use all the prayer we can get. There has been a lot of hostility from the enemy but I usually use that as a green light. An adult of all people gave his life to the Lord last night at the Dry Bones youth group. The Lord is moving in great ways!

We are all special to God -we are the apple of his eye.One day i was riding down the road ,God spoke to my heart and said,"cheyenne, you’re the APPLE OF MY EYE.As I thought about it,God showed me a picture of a lady looking through a bag of applesand she was trying to find the best one. What God was saying to me was that i was the BEST APPLE FOR HIM.At first i didn’t recive what He was saying beacuse i felt condemned for thinking such nice things about myself.I din’t know that what he was saying was actually a verse of scripture.BUT ABOUT TWO DAYS LATER WHEN I OPEND MY BIBLE,I discoverd PSALM 17:8 keep me as the apple of your eye….(NIV).At that poin, what God said became very real to me.For a long time after that,i felt very specialevery time i though about that!                                                             cheyenne

    • My God Moment - Wow. i didn’t expect to get hit with a conversation when i got on the internet (chat room) with a bunch of my friends(a Mormon and  some who just have it their way religion, etc.) who have different beliefs and views of God and religion. it was a nice conversation without any one arguing. everyone was respectful towards each others opinions. I picked one person out of the bunch to try and bring the GOSPEL up to him and LISTEN to what he had to say, so i could learn more about his views on how he thinks a person can get into heaven. He told me he likes to be of the world and doesn’t think he would go to Heaven if he died. he also mentioned to me a few views that were interesting to hear that gave me a better understanding of where he is coming from. we talked about events like the holocaust, and that things like that etc. happen for a reason. I asked him if he would be willing to listen to my beliefs (share the GOSPEL)…he said he is interested in listening to my beliefs. Please Pray for me as this continues. I hope this will be my 48 hour challenge and that the holy spirit works through me to show that my friend Stoud, which I call him can know for sure that he will go to heaven. I know it will be a challenge because he loves to be of the world. his exact words were "I love the world."  God bless St. Louis, the teens and youth pastors that attended this years Dare2share conference and Dare2share. I am 25 yrs old and still growing in my relationship with Christ. I want to encourage the teenagers that attended this weekend to always know that God is with you wherever you go.   A few of my favorite scriptures that encourage my relationship with Christ are:  1 Timothy 4:12 says Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Keep me in your prayers and my friend Stoud. Thanks and God bless

Taylor then says hey ask Robin the question. i’m thinking ok. so i ask my friend robin if she was positive that she was going to heaven. she said she didn’t know. when i was about to tell her the gospel the bell rang. Lunch was over but i said to robin that i want to talk to her after school.so after school i start to talk to her again. after roughly going over the gospel she started to talk to me about what she believed. it was mostly about the last days on earth. it was really confussing but i listened. When she was done i told her i would like her to read revalations. She owns a bible. i said i would read it too and we could discuss it tomorrow. While this was happen my friend Talyor came up with one of her friends and said she wants to know how to get to heaven. I’m thinking wow this is amazing. So i talked with her too. None of them have put there faith in christ but i’m definitly going to talk to them tomorrow so please pray for me.
