    Shreddin’ in Seattle

Posted on Sunday 22 March 2009 by Greg @ 7:45 am
    Filed under: Conferences

The Seattle Conference was powerful. The Key West Arena was rocking and rolling with teenagers from Seattle, Oregon, California, Canada and even Hawaii and Montana who committed to Shred the Gnar with five of their friends right away. I’d say about 90% committed to dive into deep spiritual confersations with their friends. Pray for them as they seek to do just that.

7 tons of canned food collected for the Salvation Army.

    Tons of decisions for Jesus.

All in all a great weekend.

If you were there please tell me your story. Did you get to share Jesus with a friend yet?

    Signed, Greg Stier

      • Hey, I am olivia and i went to the Dare 2 share at the key arena and loved it! It changed me, i bought the pink shirt and am wearin it now! Thank you so much for coming to washington! I felt God Tellin me to talk to my friend on friday night, so today i messaged her and asked what her she believed. She said that she was a chirstian, but she thinks it is so overwhelming! I TOTALY understand that! Because from what we hear from churchs and other people is you have to be so religous! But i am not! I just talk to God normally. I just sit and look outside and what he made, and talk to him. I love the way you and Zane and Dewey said everything, it was a way I could understand it! I always want to have a wonderful God lovin life, but i cant do that with out Gods strength! So i am basicly askin him to give me that strength! Please if you could keep me in your prayers that would be Great!

      • I just want to say THANK YOU! I am an adult sponsor and this is my second year coming with the youth group to Dare2share. Not only is the event great for the teens, its great for us adults too. The kids have a great time and come away totally pumped to share the gospel and it also re-lights the fire for me working with the youth. Right about this time every school year i totally start to feel burnt out and the joy in ministry starts to get harder and harder to find. Full time job + youth ministry = crazy crazy busy. but seeing the kids get totally pumped up and seeing the victories for Jesus and their renewed energy totally gets me fired up again. Thank you for all the hard work you do! It is most definitely appreciated!

      • dare to share is awesome! i got back yesterday tired, but blessed.

During the collection of canned food, a friend and i stopped by a lady’s house to ask for cans.

She opened the door and asked us what we wanted. We told her that we were collecting foos for the Salvation Army, and did she want to donate any. The lady went to get some, and as she left she said “I just broke up with my boy-friend, this is kinda a bad time”. As she walked to her kitchen my friend and i looked at each other. We both knew what was next.
As she handed us the cans, i asked her if she would like for us to pray for her. She agreed, and my friend prayed for her in Spanish. When he was done we talked to her about God’s love, and how beautiful and special she is in His eyes. As we talked to her, her countenance changed from somber and sad, to elated and thrilled. We had given her God’s message during her struggles. She thanked us, and was beyond words. “You guys have come at the best time!” she said. When we left, she was changed. We blessed her, and closed the door behind her. A moment later she opened it again and called out “God Bless you too”.

As we neared the driveway my friend and i could not believe what had just happened. We were speachless, near tears. We had done something amazing for this woman, just two teens.

This showed us how kids can make a difference.

        We can change a life.

        Thanks Dare to Share!!!!

      • Dare2Share this weekend really motivated me to share the gospel with people that I know! It was really awesome… the atmosphere with so many Christians was incredible. Door to door taught me a lot about rejection and how we should respond to questions. If you could pray for one elderly lady that we encountered who was battling cancer and had two months to live and refused to accept forgiveness for her sins, that would mean a lot. When I got home after d2s, I immediately got online and started sharing the gospel with whoever was online on i.m. but most of the people that I shared the gospel with had trouble accepting the fact that God exists in the first place. If you could pray for these people too, that would be great.
        I can’t wait for d2s next year!

When the youth went out for the canned food drive, they planted so many seeds that will grow. D2S has even motivated me to share the gospel with others. Keep up the good work and I’ll see you next year.

I could completely relate and I felt like the drama was meant for me. It really spoke to me. There was always this one sin nagging at me. But thanks to dare2share, I don’t feel like i have to do it anymore if I just give it up to God. THANKS D2S!

      • This was so awsome. It was my first time there, I came with my friend and her mom. During the first day I was changed forever when I made the decition to trust God with my life. I chose to quit drinking, to quit doing drugs, and start my new life. I feel like I have been reborn. It also made me decide to help all my other friends that are stuck in the horrible life of drugs and sins, by telling them the word of God. I told my friend that brought me there that dare2share made me decide to quit and she said she knew that it would and that’s why she brought me. That shows that your program last year inspired her to help me by also telling me the word of god. Thank you soooooooooo much for puting together that wounderful conferince. Dare2share saved my life.

No, but several did and if one person in the Key reached just ONE person…. just ONE it was worth it! Taking the kids out for the food drive again this year was another huge blessing. It showed the kids that people (even when our country is in crisis) will still help others by donating food, and the kids were so proud of what they did!

      • What a great weekend! Greg, praise God for all you and Dare 2 Share do! If I recall correctly, you were sick on Friday night at Survive in Seattle last year too. Thanks to God for helping you overcome to help train our teens.

I had one young adult with us that was very hesitant to do the cell phone challenge. She said she really wanted to share the Gospel with her friend, but had been shut down by her so many times. She also didn’t want to do it over the phone. I suggested she give her a call and setup a lunch for Monday to share with her, and to pray for her in the interim. She kept making excuses.

Then, an amazing thing happened. As we were leaving for lunch, she got a text message. It was from the friend she wanted to share with. They hadn’t talked in months. Guess what the message said…”Wanna do lunch this week?” When she showed me the text, I was overcome with awe at how God works. I said “Was that a clear enough sign from God?”

Needless to say, they’re gonna eat, and Kim is gonna Shred the Gnar with her friend!

        God bless!!!

      • Hi Greg,

I am an adult youth leader and I agree with the other adult leaders who are sharing here that we get fed and re-charged every bit as much as the kids. I am at my full time job today and have already had a full blown conversation about religion and Christ and where he rightfully fits in our lives (and did this in the middle of a machine shop). How can I expect my kids to do this if I don’t live up to the very same expectations??? Your message is very clear and there are some very excited people here in the Northwest who are out Shreddin the Gnar today!!!! Thanks to you and the D2S staff for your ministry!

I have been struggling with how to get my youth group to spread the Word of God. GOSPEL is great way to remeber how to evangelize the “GOOD NEWS”. I am going to implement this program into my youth group starting this week. Greg, Zane and Derwin you guys are great. Thanks you for your awesome enthusiasm for God and our youth. • Hey Greg!
I went to this conference last year, but something entirely different happened this time… I was changed. On friday night, I was broken and on Saturday, God built me back up, that’s the only way I can describe it. On Saturday, I took the phone challenge. I wasn’t nervious necessarily, but I was unsure that I would say the right things. I called a friend that I had been speaking to for years about church… but never the gospel. I hadn’t seen him hardly at all this year, but called anyways. Thanks to Dare to Share shoving me in the right direction, the LORD claimed another son that day! Thank you (and the others) so much for changing my life, and for helping me to bring a friend to walk with God. I would deeply appreciate prayer for his walk to be strengthened.
Also, I feel the need to deeply thank Leeland. The band has been my favorite for some time, but I never understood the lead singer’s true passion for worship, not only through music, but through life.
Due to all of these things, I will never be the same.
(sorry, that was a little long)

Thank you guys so much for coming to Seattle. I have always been a christian but never really embraced it. I was finally sick and tired of doing the christian thing. I was ready to give up, and was falling away from God. The first night of Dare2Share the drama really impacted me. I know so many people who are stuck in the room. And I was kind of stuck in that room with my faith. I had an unbelievable experience. I can’t even explain it. It is like I am a new person. Ever since Dare2Share I have noticed that have been a lot happier. I took the “Shreddin’ the Gnar” challenge and have been praying for my friends. The friend I decided to call during the cell phone challenge did not answer at the time, but I was able to bring it up at school today. And I got to start a little something! I am so thankful that you guys do this every year! Thank You so much! :D

It was awesome! Also we had all of our kids come back home from the conference on FIRE for the Lord with some of our kids stepping up into places of leadership with a desire to share Jesus with all of the people they come in contact with! It is amazing to see the work of the Lord in the hearts of these young people! God You are so good!!! We also had one of our boys who has really been struggling and been a knucklehead break down during the drama and so I prayed with him and he came back into the session during worship and his eyes lit up and he just started praising God! And all Saturday he just wanted to tell people how much Jesus loves them! All of our kids came out of the conference saying that our youth group is never going to be the same because of this! My prayer is that this fire continues to grow and burn bright in their hearts as well as our leadership! Thank you D2S for being so committed to loving Jesus Christ and doing God’s work! Standing O for you guys!

My friend and her sister and also my sister and we collected 3 boxes full of caned food. We sort of got to share the GOSPEL with one person, and we got people who shut their doors when we asked them about the beliefs but it was a great time. Just from collecting cans I learned that it actually isn’t that hard to share the GOSPEL. It was fun! I loved going there and look forward to going next year.

      • Greg,

Thank you and the whole D2S team for the work, the vision and the obedience to carry out what God has purposed for you. This Seattle event was our 3rd out of the 4 that have been presented, we had a few 3 time veterans a few 2 time veterans and quite a few newbies. I got a call from one of the 2nd time veterans on Monday night about 10pm after I had went to bed his name is Ricky, he was one of the two young men from our group that you recognized on stage after the outreach event, like you know, like you know, hmmm thought that might spur a memory. Anyway he left a message on my phone that every youth leader, pastor, worker, yearns to hear, it was one of those messages that after you hear it, it fuels you to continue doing what you do. The root of the message was that he finally gets it, he finally sees with absolute clarity why he is here, what his purpose is, what he was created for. In his words “I feel like I just drank a thousand energy drinks, I can’t sleep, I can’t sit still, I have to tell people about Jesus.

        Is that cool or what?

      • I was at D2S Seattle, and it was awesome.

When I was “Shredin’ the gnar” and collecting canned food, my group met some interesting people, including an atheist. Back at school, I have talked to a couple of my friends, and I think that they might be ready to learn more about Jesus!

Keep on shredin’ the gnar, dude!

      • Thank you so much for dare 2 share! I learned so much more about sharing my faith and now i’m not afraid to do it! it was a very powerful experience, from the singing to the skits, I loved every second of it, it truly did change my life and I am forever greatful for that. You guys are hilarious, and that made it even better. I didn’t feel the gospel was forced upon me, like I sometimes do with these things, but I feel like it was shared in a way that I wanted to learn and be there. I thank you so much, I wll pray for you guys and your safety and for the money issue with dare to share. thanks again guys, see you next year!

      • This was my first time at D2S, and I had a terrific time and i was the 3rd to youngest there with my youthgroup. I would have loved to have gone last year but i was kind-of scared, but I heard that it was awesome so I went, and it was the best time I ever had for a long time. I want to go every year from now on. Even though I didn’t have most of the problems like emotional breakdowns or suicidal thoughts, I felt that I needed to reach other people around me with the gospel and D2S has prepared me for that. I just want to thank all of the people involved with D2S and especially Greg, Zane, and Derwin (I liked how he can flex his chest).

      • I went to Dare2Share in Seattle. It was totally amazing. I feel totally changed. I don’t want to be just another person in the hallway at school that people can pass by. I want to live my life for God 24/7. I’ve been a Christian since I was 6, but nothing has ever really, truly hit me, except Dare@Share, Cascades Camp, and Repossess. It was truly awesome, and I just want to say thank you to everyone. Zane, Dewey, Greg, all the actors, and everyone involved. Thank you for making a difference in so many people’s lives.
        God bless,
        Stephanie.

      • Hey greg

I went to dare to share in seattle and it totally rocked. i’ve never really felt comfortable sharing my faith and now I do. We might move to newfoundland this summer(St. Johns)(We live in vanderhoof, British columbia). Most people there are Either catholic of some other religon. not very mmany christians. We will get to share our faith there at school and whenever we meet someone. It’ll be awsome to shed the gnar like that. my five friends I want to lead to christ are from school and the bus. my two from school sound ready to become christians.

thanks for everything you taught me at the dare to share conference.

        Keep shreddin the gnar

        God bless
        Shelby
