    Phoenix is rocking and shreddin!

Posted on Saturday 28 February 2009 by Greg @ 6:59 am
    Filed under: Conferences

Right now I’m in the middle of the Dare 2 Share Conference in Phoenix. The crowd is REALLY into it. One of the cool things about this conference is the venue. It is probably my favorite venue of all times. While it is not super big, it is ultra intimate and sleek. But a venue is only as great as the teens that fill it. And that’s what makes this conference a great one.

Later today teenagers are going to collect canned food for The Phoenix Rescue Mission. Its nice and hot down here and it’s gonna get hotter as these teens set the streets of Phoenix ablaze with the glory and story of God!

If you are one of the teens who learned how to shred the gnar in Phoenix tell me your story. Who did you get to share the gospel with? What happened? What are the names of the five teens you are going to shred the gnar with?

Greg spoke about Reaching Your Friends Before It’s To Late. I go to a Geneva College, just a little north of Pittsburgh, PA, and right now I’m sitting with my roommie and we are listening about what it is to be “On The Brink and In Between,” a message from Creation 2003. There was only one other speaker who spoke to me so clearly. You rock, keep reaching this new generation!

      • I was one!!!
We didn’t have much success with cans and going door to door. Most didn’t speak English.
As we were walking back to our car, and ice cream man came driving down the street playing his ice cream man music… My thought was like… That guy needs Jesus! So I approached the fan and 2 friends followed to see what I was gonna do. I pulled out $1.25 and asked for a chocolate ice cream sandwich. There was a driver and a cashier worker. She handed me my ice cream and all I said was… ‘Oh, and one more thing… Can I tell you about Jesus?’
The ice cream people looked shocked. The turned off the music and listened as I shared. They knew nothing about the Bible or God… They didn’t even know what praying was! So after my 3 minute Jesus talk, I gave them the John book and asked them to consider accepting Christ as their savior.
I don’t know what happened or if they accepted but it was weird of me to do that… I’ve never shared like that. Even my friends were shocked.

I went to a dare 2 share conference when I was in high school, and now that i’m a leader, it’s really different. i mean watching your kids process all the information their given is such an amazing experience.

Worship with Fee and Leeland was AWESOME! my kids were jumping up and down and making motions to the songs. and we were singing them all the way home! Thank you so much, Greg! and say thanks to Zane and Dewey and the bands for me, please! Thanks!

don’t get me wrong, the words were beautiful for praising God (poetically) not sing-a-long worthy.

God used me to touch some friends (cell phone challenge) that had just moved to another state two days earlier and I know that He used me to get through to them. If I had not gone I would have possibly missed the opportunity and so would they. One thing that God showed me was that you never no what you could miss out on, or what someone else could miss out on if you are not obedient to Spirit.

I thank God that I went and I plan to go again next year!!!! I had a great time! And so did the kids in our youth group. Thanks!

I think this will be a great challenge and will help me grow ALOT! I wish i could be a part of a conference like dare2share. i love teaching kids how to share their faith and how to overcome sin and temptation. • I attended the Phoenix Dare2share conference for the first time this weekend, and it was great! Greg you are awesome! The way you speak really hits home and the whole experience has really inspired me to go share the good news. It’s always cool to see a room full of Christians pouring their hearts out in worship to Christ. One of the best parts for me personally was when you had us call one of our friends and witness to them. I called my buddy Keith. I had talked to him before about Christ but he never really seemed interested… that is until yesterday. When I called him I was a little nervous because I had never really talked to anyone about God over the phone before, but it was cool because I could tell that he actually seemed interested in what I had to say! He didn’t accept Christ over the phone or anything but I was able to at least plant a seed inside of him. He even asked to talk about it more with him at school. So I’m going to continue to pursue it and hopefully in time lead him to Christ. So I guess to sum all this up, I’d like to thank you for your ministry and all that it does. It has really helped me to see the importance in getting the word out and it has given me the motivation to spread Christ to those that need him. Once again I thank you!

P.S: Hey Greg, I would have really liked the opportunity to have met you in person but I never saw you out wandering around or anything. Oh well, Maybe next year!

      • Greg, My name is Noah I’m 16 years old and this was my second D2S conference and I have got to say Jesus has definetely woken me up this weekend everything from the teachings to the dramas, to the ministry and fellowship really got me eagar to shred the gnar. But speaking of shreddin’ the gnar I feel that Jesus has put it on my heart to reach out to my school. I go to school in the tiny town of Patagonia, Arizona it’s place that is lost and confused and the gospel message is not reaching down there, I mean they don’t even truly have a church down there except for the catholic church and I believe that Jesus told me personally this weekend that I should do somthing about it that enough is enough. So when we were calling to share the gospel with our friends I called my youth leader that lives down there and we’re going to discuss a new type of outreach down there for youth and adults. So as far as shreddin’ the gnar goes I feel like I’m about to take on a title wave but I trust that Jesus will lead the way, so I’m asking for you to please keep us in prayer and I will keep you updated on our progress.

I must say it was even better than last year, (and we thought last year was so awesome) our group was small only 13 teens, and each one came back home on fire for God. Today we spent time reflecting on the Conference and it would seem we are sad the event ended. So we have now started talking about making plans for attending next year, and helping our kids learn how to Shred’ the Gnar.

Thanks Greg – we really support all you’re doing for the youth “God Bless You”

So I texted my friend, who had had a troubled life and I was like “Do you believe in Jesus?” and this girl was like, I didn’t but since you’ve came here my life started to get better. So then I was like “Do you know where your going when you die?” and she was like I have no idea! So then I shared the gospel and explained that she wasnt a bad person and she has forgiveness for everything. She accepted christ. And that made my day.:D

Well at first I didn’t really know what to expect but my friend was always telling me “Its gonna be awesome” so I was like “ok if you say so”! We got there and we had really good seats but, I was so anxious(sp?)for it to start that I thought we sat there for HOURS!! So finally it started and right away you could feel the presence of God I was SUPER STOKED!!! So I think the next day was even better, I was really nervous about going door-to-door “SHREDDIN THE GNAR” but once we got there and started sharing the word of God and asking for cans I was so excited!! One lady that we asked if she needed anything for us to pray about told us that her daughter was diagnosed with cancer and it was gonna be her first chemothearpy that day and told us if we could pray about that. So we prayed with her and after we finished she was so happy she hugged my friends and I and said thank you to us, it was the best!! So I’m super EXCITED about next year that I can’t wait!!! Thank you Greg, Zane, Derwin for really helping me how to “SHRED THE GNAR”!!!

      • We just returned from the Phoenix Invincible conference. We took 25 youth and leaders this year and everyone of them came away with a story but i want to share just a few. One of high school girls named Emily has been witnessing to her friend for the last 3 years without much success, but during the cell phone challenge at the conference she called her friend “one more time” and this time she responded and accepted the Lord on the phone, saying she finally got it.
One of our Jr highers named Analisa called her uncle who has walked away from the Lord since the death of his sister, this child’s mother. She challenged him by asking if he was going to see his sister in heaven. He responded that he wasn’t sure and she shared the gospel with him. He didn’t respond but she said she was going to “get him” when she got back to Tucson.
All of our kids were psyched about the door to door stuff. They all got to pray with people and we collected a lot of stuff including a bag of clothes. The area of town we were assigned to was kind of scary and as the leader I considering not taking our kids into that area but God told me that if we serve and trust Him in Tucson then we should serve and TRUST Him anywhere. So we went and GOD blessed our faith by allowing us to pray with people and share the gospel and to allow people to help by giving. We also met a pastor who was working in the area who said that we blessed and encouraged him continue the fight in the neighborhood.
        Thanks for another great conference.
We are looking forward to next years Blaze Conference.

So I did not go to D2S this year cause Im in college and couldn’t volunteer right now, My father (who is a youth pastor) bought me a Double Dare shirt, which I wore today. My best friend Ari was talking to me and she asked if I had done the double dare this year, I said no, cause I diddnt go, and she said “Ok, well do it anyway, I Double Dare you to share your face with someone by Thursday night” at which point I died laughing because she said Face… we decided I would not share my face with anyone, I will keep it to myself, because chances of me getting married by Thursday are not looking too well. so the Face is mine, my Faith on the other hand I plan to share with my lab partner in Chem class on Thursday. wish me luck… or pray for me, I guess would be the correct term to use.
I just wanted to share the story with Greg and yalls. remember its Faith you share not your FACE : )

Our youth got into the discussion and the conversations and challenges flowed. One of the youth asked if we could have discussion like this every class. I told them absolutely. This is an awesome tool to continue what was ignited at the Dare2Share conference. Our youth is taking the phrase “Shreddin the Gnar” and running with it. Some have adopted it as their motto. I am ordering the book for some of the youth. They saw me reading my copy and I shared some things with them and now they have to have it. Thanks so much for the resources you provide. This youth group will be doing everything possible to bring their generation into the kingdom.

      • Hello, I brought a small (4 students) Junior High Group to the Dodge Theater for the third time this past weekend. For several years prior, I came as a volunteer.
During the outreach, my students were so excited and motivated to share the Gospel message with at least one person each. During our door-to-door time, only one of them got the opportunity. Their response to that was to find a way to share with someone at the Dairy Queen afterward+. They spent a good deal of time discussing which customer most needed to hear, and finally chose a group of about 6 LARGE “biker dudes” They boldly approached the group, and started talking to them. The leader of the group turned to show them his “bikers for Christ” logo on the back of his vest, but asked for the students to continue sharing what they learned. (I figured that your typical biker gang wouldn’t be hanging out at the Dairy Queen)
There was a woman sitting alone in a nearby booth, and she listened quietly and intently as the students enthusiastically shared. She smiled a soft smile at me as we left, and one of the students mentioned that she noticed her looking at us. We prayed for her in the van on the way back, and enjoyed the rest of the evening.
The next morning on my way to church, I stopped at McDonalds for breakfast (which I have never done in 15 years) The woman we saw at Dairy Queen the previous day came up to me and grabbed me for a spontaneous hug, and said:

“You were with those amazing kids yesterday! I have to tell you what they did for me…I have had a horrible year; I lost my husband and have had some major health problems myself. I haven’t spoken to my daughter or seen my Grandchildren in over 8 months. I went to the Dairy Queen to wallow in my self-pity over a banana split and to decide if life was worth continuing. Hearing those kids share of Christ so boldly reminded me what I’d left behind when I left my church and turned away from my relationship with God a few years ago. I turned away from the one who made life worth living, and turned back to myself. I went home from Dairy Queen, opened my Bible and read for hours, crying out to God. I called my Daughter, and am on my way to meet her at church right now.
Please tell those kids to never lose their faith, and to keep boldly sharing. You never know who you’ll be reaching.”

Her name is Susan, and we’d appreciate your joining us in prayer for her. Thank you for the difference you’ve made in these students (and Susan’s) lives.

I’ve seen a complete change in him over the last few months from getting into some really bad things and just hangin with the wrong crowd at school, and now I’ve seen him become equiped and encouraged from this conference to share his faith with his friends and even random strangers.
It was so cool to hear from my dad that when Nick and his friend Desi dissappeared for a while we were at a hotel this past weekend, they weren’t getting into trouble or just hanging out, they were in the lobby sharing Christ with one of the receptionists!
Thanks Greg for answering the call; sharing God’s good news and also equipping our young people to share His love as well.
        Blessings,

      • So…couple of cool things have happened since our group of 14 walked out of the D2S Invincible conference. One of the coolest was 2 of my Jr. High students dragging the friend they text the name of into the nurses office and sharing the GOSPEL with him based on what they learned at INVINCIBLE. He had a lot of questions which they did their best at anwering and in the end he said he wanted to have a relationship with Christ. He has since been going to church with them!! The other is quite the story in itself. I help our principal with the morning announcements and something inside challanged me to encourage the students at the K-8 school to “Shred the Gnar”..to GO BIG. So unbenounced to the Principal, I began this bantor with him one morning during announcements asking if he had ever heard of the saying and explained that it had all sorts of meaning behind it but that our school needed to “Go BIg” and Shred the Gnar. The 7 Jr. High students who went to the conference reportedly broke out in woops and yells as they all “got it”. They have shared with some of their classmates what they understand it to mean and we have since grown our youth group by 2! And believe it or not, at least twice a week, we find our principal himself yelling over the mic..”lets shred the gnar!”. IN closing..I love what d2s is about – simply equiping students to share Christ with their friends in a very extraordinary and bold way. HOpe to spread the word and sell your conference out next year!!!! Go Big or Go Home…SHRED THE GNAR!!
