Messengers of Hope in Denver

Posted on Thursday 9 November 2006 by Greg @ 10:11 am
Filed under: Conferences

We are expecting between 8,500-9,500 teens in Denver this weekend at the Pepsi Center. Pray for all the teens who signed up to be transformed and effectively equipped. Pray for more to even show up at the door. Pray for a movement of God’s Spirit that will radically reform every youth group represented. Pray for the outreach experience to be effective: for thousands to be reached with the gospel and 26 tons of canned food to be collected for the Denver Resuce Mission.

In light of last week’s bad news (Ted Haggard’s fall) Christians need to step up and start spreading the message of hope in a graceful, loving and powerful way. Thousands of teenagers will be messengers of hope all over the streets of Denver this weekend to do just that. The world is becoming more cynical of Christians because of, what they perceive to be, oppressive political agendas and flat out hypocrisy. The only thing that can break that skepticism is authentic love, true service, the Holy Spirit and the gospel of Jesus. All of these are going to be unleashed on the generally unchurched people of Denver this weekend.

But we need your "air support" through prayer as these thousands of "ground troops" invade the Devil’s territory and seek to rescue captives who have been imprisoned by sin and Satan all their lives.

Stay tuned and see what God does through your prayers. And, by the way, if you live anywhere near Denver, make sure you are at the Pepsi Center this weekend and bring a bunch of teens with you!

Game on for GameDay!

Signed, Greg Stier

    • I am sitting here in my quiet office. I have checked my email (7 times), read all the blogs on my list, read my own blog (2 times), gone over my trip check list, memorized the weekend schedule, and debated apathy with the church secretary. Now its quiet in the office. Maybe it’s like the quiet before the storm. Is it quiet because I have finished all I have to do, or is it quiet so that I can hear a whisper? Greg, I will pray for your requests and more. It has been a lonely road for me leading to tomorrow’s conference. I guess I need a whisper today, so I have solved my dilemma of silence. I love you and all the staff there Greg, here comes some air support. Oh look, I am first for once..

    • Greg - I’m staring in almost disbelief - Are you the same Greg Steir from (I think) Grace Church of Arvada who brought kids to Lone Tree Bible Ranch years ago???  I was on staff and remember you - if it is you, but how many Jesus freak "Greg Steir"s from Denver can there be??  Anyway, so I’m an idiot if it’s not you, but if it is, then I knew you when!!   So anyway, WAY TO GO - this is an INCREDIBLE thing you’re doing here!!!  My 13 year old son (Josh Bailey) is going to the Denver D2S tomorrow and I’m so excited for him!  Thanks for letting God use you in a mighty way.  Thanks for always reaching out to young people!  Keep it up!  My prayers are with the event - Anna (Rhoades) Bailey

    • Hey, i saw your post today, and there were a few things i wanted to say… My best friend… Lee, his 3rd anniverary of his death was today, November. You may know of it, in 2003, a boy was trying to retrieve a kitten out from under the clutch while his friend was driving. his friend lost control, and he was ejected. he lived in platteville, and died on highway 85. I live in washington, and so does his parents, and his two little brothers. we didnt get the news until three days later… It is kinda sad without him here, but what can we do… right? and i just want to tell you that i will be in Renton/Seattle on St. Patrick’s Day, for Game Day! Also, My youth pastor is playing the Gospel journey every wednesday, Janeal is great. We are now learning and discussing the video, and it is helping me alot. Next week is "Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again." i think i got that right, so yeah… Cant wait till gameday, thanks for everything!!!!  AMBER REID

    • Dear Greg, I am Carol Ann’s niece, and i have attended the Denver dare2share for a couple years now. The year you had the skit about getting a letter from your friend in hell, and what they would tell you, was my first year. that year really impacted me, the conference kind of displayed all of my flaws and weaknesses out in the open, and that really helped me to make some big changes in the way i was living my life. so first off, i would like to tell you thank you for all that you guys do for teens, you really have made a difference!! Second i wanted to tell you about what happened this year at the Denver conference. When you first told us about the cell phone challenge, my jaw dropped! i was thinking to my self, "you want me to do what?!" but i finally realized that this was a wonderful opportunity to share the G.O.S.P.E.L with some one who other wise i wouldn’t have even thought about share the great news with! So automatically this boy Josh came to my mind, as well as my cousin Meghann’s mind, see we went to homecoming with Josh, and he is a close friend of Meghann’s. Josh has not been raised in a christian home at all, in fact he didn’t believe there was a God.(i told him about dare to share about a month ago, and he was really interested until i told him it was a christian conference, right after i told him that he started making excuses as to why he wouldn’t be able to make it. Meghann and i tried again this weekend and he pretty much brushed us off and said we were full of crud, and he didn’t wanna hear it. hearing that it kind of stung, but we took it and prayed.) Any way back to my story………. so Meghann pulls her phone out to her phone, and it dies when an hour ago it had a full battery. i looked at her and said "don’t worry we can use my phone!"  but ironically i wasn’t able to call any of my non-christian friends. Coincidence? i don’t think so! i tried over and over to call Josh, then i thought maybe it was just Josh’s phone, so i tried calling some of my other friends, that really needed to know the truth. Still, it wouldn’t put me through! grrrr i was starting to get quite angry, so i stopped everything, and prayed and asked God to work through me to get to Josh, and the very next time i tried to call Josh i got through, i handed Meghann the phone figuring Josh would be more comfortable talking to Meghann. While she was on the phone, i prayed my heart out!!! praying that God would soften Josh’s heart and help him to be opened! Five minutes later Meghann came over to me (still praying) and she was crying really hard as well as shaking! i had assumed that josh said he didn’t want to hear it once again, but to my surprise Meghann was handing me the phone, because she was crying so hard (happily) that she couldn’t do the sinner’s prayer with Josh! i got a huge smile on my face and took the phone!! but then i started thinking, and i hadn’t prayed the sinners prayer with anyone, and it’s not like there are exact words you have to say in the right order as the right time,……….. so i stopped one last time before talking to Josh and i asked him to give me the words he wanted josh to hear. And over the phone our friend that we figured would never come around became a christian that night ,so excited about Christ and learning more about Christianity! so i want to thank you for bringing that opportunity up for me and Meghann!! we are very thankful!! I’m sorry this is soooooo long, i didn’t intend for it to be this long!! praying that you would touch thousand’s of other teens like you touched Josh and me!! thanks! ashey p.s Meghann says that you need to stop scaring our aunt!!! lol
